Key Highlights

  • Brazilian oil company Petrobras developed dual blockchain applications on Cardano for monitoring sustainable fuel sustainability metrics.
  • The sustainable aviation fuel solution employs Book-and-Claim methodology preventing duplicate environmental credit usage.
  • A companion application monitors Diesel R, the company’s renewable diesel product, across its entire supply chain journey.
  • Both blockchain initiatives remain in developmental research stages without announced commercial deployment timelines.
  • Market technician identifies defended support level for ADA with price objectives at $1, $3, and $5.

Petrobras, Brazil’s government-controlled petroleum corporation, has deployed a pair of blockchain-powered applications utilizing the Cardano network. These digital solutions aim to provide transparent tracking of environmental credentials for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel products.

Wednesday’s announcement from the Cardano Foundation detailed the initial application, developed in partnership with PUC-Rio’s Ledger Labs research division.

The solution converts environmental characteristics associated with sustainable aviation fuel into blockchain-based digital tokens. This mechanism prevents duplicate accounting of identical environmental benefits.

The framework operates through a Book-and-Claim methodology. This approach decouples the environmental advantages of fuel consumption from the physical location where that fuel gets utilized.

Airlines, corporate entities, or individual travelers can secure the environmental credit regardless of the actual physical fuel deployment location. These digital tokens, designated as CS-SAF, include metadata conforming to CORSIA international aviation emission protocols.

Individual passengers gain access to CS-SAF token claims via a mobile application. Users obtain verification certificates connecting their journey to corresponding environmental impact reductions.

Renewable Diesel Monitoring System Explained

The companion blockchain application monitors Diesel R, which represents Petrobras’ renewable diesel offering. This fuel variant derives from renewable source materials including plant-based oils and animal-derived fats.

The Cardano blockchain establishes digital verification points tracking the fuel throughout manufacturing, distribution, and consumption phases. These verification nodes construct an auditable trail spanning the complete supply network.

Organizations can leverage this blockchain data for Scope 3 emissions documentation purposes. Such reporting encompasses indirect carbon footprints, including emissions generated throughout supplier networks and logistics operations.

The Cardano Foundation has not disclosed specific fuel quantities managed through either blockchain application. Commercial deployment schedules remain unannounced.

Rafael Fraga, directing Cardano Foundation’s Latin American business development operations, provided perspective on the initiative. “The energy transition requires establishing trust alongside developing alternative fuels,” Fraga stated.

The partnership between Petrobras and the Cardano Foundation originated in 2023. Initial efforts focused on blockchain training programs for Petrobras personnel, subsequently expanding during 2025 to incorporate energy sector research collaboration with PUC-Rio’s Ledger Labs.

Market Analyst Perspective On ADA Price Action

Though the Petrobras development emphasizes technological application over market dynamics, market technician commentary emerged regarding ADA’s trading position. Crypto Patel, a technical analyst sharing insights via X platform, suggested significant selling pressure concluded near recent price bottoms.

Patel indicated the weekly order block maintains support while the $0.235 threshold has been successfully recaptured. He drew parallels between the present technical zone and the accumulation region preceding ADA’s 2021 price surge.

Price objectives outlined by Patel include $1, $3, and $5 levels for ADA. He specified that a weekly closing price beneath $0.137 would invalidate the bullish technical scenario.

Energy company Shell has operated a comparable sustainability monitoring platform named Avelia since 2022. Shell disclosed in September that Avelia facilitated over 84 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel integration into worldwide fuel distribution networks.

According to Shell’s reporting, this fuel volume generated approximately 780,000 tonnes of CO₂e reduction through June 2026. Australian fuel distributor Viva Energy established a separate partnership with NoviqTech during January exploring analogous Book-and-Claim frameworks for aviation fuel applications.

Both Petrobras blockchain initiatives continue operating within research and development phases. Neither application has received confirmed dates for transitioning toward commercial operational status.
