  • Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson plans to move discussions from X to Discord due to rising hostility and misinformation concerns.
  • Future Cardano AMAs will source questions from Discord, while X will remain mainly for livestream broadcasting only.
  • Community remains divided as some support Discord moderation while others argue X is still key for crypto visibility.

Charles Hoskinson has outlined plans to move much of Cardano’s community engagement away from X and onto Discord, citing growing frustration with hostility and misinformation on the social platform. The Cardano co-founder said he recently spoke with EMURGO CEO Phillip Pon about creating a dedicated Discord hub, while continuing to use X for livestream broadcasts to his audience of more than one million followers.

Hoskinson Outlines Discord Migration Plan

According to Hoskinson, the proposed Discord environment would focus on moderated discussions and community collaboration. He said the goal is to leave behind what he described as drama, false narratives, and persistent hostility that have increasingly dominated conversations on X.

As part of the transition, Hoskinson said future Ask Me Anything sessions will source questions exclusively from Cardano and Midnight Discord communities. Midnight is a privacy-focused blockchain project developed by IOG.

However, Hoskinson clarified that he will continue broadcasting livestreams on X because of its reach. He also dismissed suggestions that livestreaming means he has abandoned plans to reduce engagement on the platform.

Growing Frustration With Social Media Environment

The announcement follows months of criticism from Hoskinson regarding discussions surrounding Cardano on X. During an April livestream titled “Remember Kids, X Isn’t Reality,” he discussed challenges linked to online engagement and ongoing work on an artificial intelligence project called Project Nyx.

According to Hoskinson, platform rules complicated those efforts because AI-managed accounts require bot labeling, which can affect visibility.

Meanwhile, recent community analysis highlighted some of the issues he referenced. Cardano community member Christian Taylor reviewed approximately 130 replies to a post addressing anti-Hoskinson threads.

Using Grok for assistance, Taylor found that roughly one-third of responses contained hostile language, abuse, or profanity. The analysis also identified repeated language patterns and activity from lightly anonymous accounts.

Community Debate Emerges Over The Move

Not everyone supports the proposal. Some community members argued that X remains the primary venue for crypto discussions and industry visibility.

Patrick Tobler said much of the crypto and technology conversation still takes place on X. Others warned that moving discussions to Discord could reduce exposure to broader industry debates and criticism.

Nevertheless, Hoskinson pointed to the growth of the Midnight Discord community as evidence of increasing engagement. According to reports, the server expanded from 11,000 members to 49,000 members during the past six months.
