Nearly 200 new tokens hit centralized exchanges last month, and two platforms alone accounted for more than half of them.

If you've been tracking CEX listing activity hoping for signs the market is turning, August just gave you the clearest one in over a year.

Here's what the exchange-by-exchange breakdown actually shows and why the number still isn't as bullish as it looks.

What Happened With CEX Listings in August 2026?

CEX listing activity rose sharply in August 2026, with new token listings across centralized exchanges climbing to 199, up from 98 in July, a 103% jump.

That's the sharpest single-month exchange listing recovery in more than a year, based on exchange listing data tracked by CryptoRank.

Two factors drove this CEX listing activity rebound: improving overall crypto market sentiment and a growing pipeline of tokenized stock Registers , a category exchanges have been leaning into hard through 2026.

Which Exchanges Drove the Rebound

MEXC listings and Binance new listings did the heavy lifting behind August's CEX listing activity surge.

Together, the two exchanges added 120 of August's 199 new listings, more than 60% of the month's total.

  • MEXC: 78 new token listings, the most of any exchange

  • Binance: 42 new listings, second highest

  • OKX: 24 listings, up from just 3 in July, an eightfold jump

  • KuCoin listings: 15

  • Gate: 12 listings

  • Bitget: 10 listings

  • Crypto.com: 4 listings

  • Bybit: 1 listing

  • HTX: 1 listing

  • Other smaller exchanges (combined): 12 Registers

The OKX listing surge stands out on its own within this month's centralized exchange Registers data.

Adding just 3 tokens in July and then 24 in August is a bigger proportional swing than any other exchange on the list, even though its raw total sits below MEXC and Binance.

Why The Recovery Still Isn't A Record

The 199 figure looks strong next to July, but it's still far off the cycle peak.

CEX listing activity hit 361 in August 2025, nearly double this year's August count.

From that peak, monthly Registers declined steadily for months before bottoming out around mid-2026, then began a slow recovery through June and July ahead of August's larger jump.

So the honest read is: this is the strongest month for new crypto Registers  in over a year, not a new high.

CEX listing activity is recovering, but from a real low, not resetting toward last year's pace.

What's Behind the Tokenized Stock Push

Tokenized stock Registers have become one of the fastest-growing categories on exchange listing boards this year, as platforms compete to offer on-chain exposure to traditional stocks alongside standard crypto tokens.

That trend lines up with on-chain data showing real-world asset (RWA) trading volume hitting a fresh all-time high in August, with tokenized stocks making up a growing share of that volume compared to earlier in the summer.

A similar shift shows up in broader CEX listing performance trends tracked in listing narrative research from CryptoRank, which found exchanges favoring tokenized real-world assets over purely speculative categories through 2026.

What To Watch Next

One strong month doesn't confirm a lasting trend reversal in CEX listing activity on its own.

Whether August's pace holds will depend on two things: whether tokenized stock Registers keep expanding and whether crypto market sentiment stays supportive into September.

Exchanges have historically pulled back new Registers fast when risk appetite shifts, so a repeat performance in September and October would matter more than August's number alone.

Conclusion

August's 103% jump in CEX listing activity is a genuine rebound, and MEXC, Binance, and OKX's outsized contributions show exchanges responding to real demand, particularly around tokenized stock Registers.

But with the total still roughly 45% below last year's peak, it reads as recovery, not resurgence.

The next two months of data will show whether this exchange listing recovery holds.
