Crypto developer Bird noted a potentially significant shift in XRP’s weekly momentum. He explained that the cryptocurrency’s latest MACD setup resembles previous periods that preceded major price advances.
According to Bird, the current technical structure stands out because the weekly MACD has fallen much deeper below the zero line before rising higher.
With XRP trading around $1.40 on the chart, the analyst believes the current momentum reversal could develop into a much larger move if the pattern continues to follow previous cycles.
Bird Highlights Previous XRP MACD Turns
Bird’s analysis on X focuses on several highlighted areas on the XRP weekly chart, where previous MACD reversals coincided with substantial price increases.
The first example occurred in 2017, when the weekly MACD turned higher before XRP’s sharp rally. Bird then points to 2020–2021, when the MACD reset and subsequently crossed bullish. During that cycle, XRP moved from roughly $0.20 to nearly $2.
The third example appears in 2024. Bird notes that another bullish turn in the weekly MACD preceded XRP’s move from approximately $0.50 to above $3. The chart marks each of these periods with green circles to show where weekly momentum began changing direction.
Bird argues that these previous instances provide the basis for examining the latest MACD structure.
XRP MACD Has Reset Deeper This Time
According to Bird, the most important feature of the current setup is the depth of the weekly MACD reset. The indicator moved significantly below the zero line during the latest decline before beginning to curl upward.
Bird also points to the histogram, which has started printing expanding green bars. In his view, this suggests that bearish momentum may be weakening while bullish momentum begins to develop.
The analyst explains that a deeply negative MACD reflects a large gap between shorter-term and longer-term weekly moving averages. If XRP’s price stabilizes and the shorter-term averages begin closing that gap, Bird believes the MACD could have considerable room to recover before even reaching the zero line.
He therefore considers the current reversal different from a shallow momentum recovery.
Bird Predicts Potential New XRP Highs
Bird acknowledges that XRP price remains around $1.40, significantly below the more than $3 level highlighted on the chart. However, he explains that the relatively low price combined with the developing weekly MACD reversal could create conditions for another major cycle if historical patterns repeat.
“If history rhymes,” Bird says, he does not expect the setup to produce only a small bounce. Instead, he believes XRP could potentially move toward new all-time highs and enter price discovery.
Bird ultimately expects what he describes as the “biggest green candles XRP has ever printed” if the weekly momentum cycle fully develops.
