The Senate may not leave Washington on Friday. Senator Cynthia Lummis, chairwoman of the Senate Subcommittee on Digital Assets, said the chamber will push into the weekend to complete votes on several pending bills, including the CLARITY Act.
She made the comments on Fox Business, speaking with Maria Bartiromo. Crypto pundit BankXRP (@BankXRP) shared the video with the community, amplifying her comments and expressing the desire to see the bill passed.
A Vote Is Coming
Lummis did not hedge. “I don’t think we’ll be leaving on Friday,” stating that the Senate will work into the weekend. She confirmed the CLARITY Act is among the bills senators will vote on before departing for August recess.
The legislation has been in negotiation for 11 months. During that time, Democrats requested over 300 pages of additions to the bill. Lummis made clear that patience has run its course. “It’s just time to get people on the record,” she said.
Bipartisan Pressure Is Building
Lummis is not alone in pushing for a vote. Senator John Kennedy has also stated publicly that the bill should pass. He went further, saying he would not mind staying in Washington rather than leaving for recess, because the American people expect the Senate to act on this legislation and several others.
The CLARITY Act has not been added to the agenda, but the voices calling for a vote are growing louder.
The One Issue Still in the Way
The bill aims to establish a clear regulatory structure for digital assets in the U.S., drawing legal distinctions between assets classified as commodities and those classified as securities.
The one remaining sticking point in negotiations involves whether state attorneys general should have authority to sue the Department of Justice over ethics enforcement. Democrats support it, but Republicans and the White House do not.
Senators Tom Tillis and Ruben Gallego have led discussions to bridge that gap. Any final agreement must also receive President Trump’s approval before the bill advances.
XRP and What a Vote Could Mean
XRP stands to benefit from the CLARITY Act passing. The bill would reinforce the regulatory clarity that the asset fought to secure. A vote on the Senate floor, even before a final result, would mark a significant step forward and put every senator on record. The next few days will determine whether that vote happens, but Lummis believes it will.
