Investor and Web3 expert Jake Claver has a theory about why XRP’s price often fails to reflect positive adoption news. Dark pools, he notes, may be the answer.

In a video shared on X, Claver explained how large institutions can accumulate XRP through private trading venues without moving the public market. He believes that process could eventually produce a sharp repricing if demand exceeds the supply available on public exchanges.

How Dark Pools Work

Dark pools are private venues where investors execute large trades outside public exchanges. Institutions use them to limit the immediate market impact of sizeable orders and to keep their buying intentions private during execution.

Claver illustrated the concept with a hypothetical $500 million XRP purchase. Placing an order that size on a public exchange would signal demand to other traders and push prices higher before the purchase completes. A dark pool allows the buyer to fill that order with far less disruption to the public market.

He named X, SFOX and Kraken as platforms offering these services to institutional clients and cited RIN protocol as an example of decentralized alternatives under development.

Claver suggested that hedge funds, family offices and potentially nation-states could use these venues to build XRP positions without revealing their activity in advance.

Why He Expects a Major Move

Claver’s predicted price surge rests on a supply argument. If institutions continue acquiring XRP through dark pools, fewer tokens remain available for buyers on public exchanges.

He noted that the dynamic could shift sharply if private venues can no longer absorb institutional demand. Buyers forced onto public exchanges would compete for a reduced supply, pushing prices higher. Claver suggested XRP could rise two, three, or even five times its current price if that supply shortage materializes.

He also cautioned that investors waiting for confirmation of a breakout may find themselves buying at significantly higher prices.

What the Evidence Shows

Claver did not provide data showing institutions are currently accumulating XRP at the scale he described. He named no specific catalyst and gave no timeframe for the move he predicted.

Dark pools do allow large investors to execute trades without causing the immediate swings that equivalent public orders would trigger. Their existence alone, however, does not confirm that XRP’s price is being held below its true level.

His outlook depends on whether institutional demand grows large enough to reduce public liquidity and whether that pressure eventually reaches open markets. Neither condition has been confirmed.

For XRP holders, the central question remains whether institutional participation will translate into sustained buying pressure.
