Mirae Asset has completed its acquisition of Korbit, one of South Korea's oldest cryptocurrency exchanges, marking another milestone in the growing convergence of traditional finance and the digital asset industry. The transaction brings the exchange under the umbrella of the Mirae group, which manages roughly $800 billion in assets.

The acquisition was carried out through Mirae Asset Consulting, with the company acquiring the stake previously held by NXC, the investment arm best known as the parent company of game developer Nexon. According to reports, NXC decided to divest its holding as it refocuses on its core businesses.

Founded in 2013, Korbit was among the first crypto exchanges established in South Korea and played a significant role in the country's early digital asset market. While Upbit and Bithumb now dominate local trading volumes, Korbit remains one of the country's longest-operating exchanges with an established brand.

The deal is significant because it represents one of the clearest examples of a major traditional financial institution acquiring crypto infrastructure instead of simply investing in digital assets. For Mirae Asset, ownership of an exchange could complement future ambitions in tokenized assets, digital investment products, and blockchain-based financial services as the market continues to mature.

South Korea remains one of Asia's most influential crypto markets, where regulatory developments and institutional participation are closely watched. Against that backdrop, the Korbit acquisition signals growing confidence among established financial firms that digital assets will become a lasting part of mainstream finance. Although no immediate operational changes have been announced, the acquisition is expected to strengthen Korbit's long-term position while reinforcing the broader trend of deeper integration between TradFi and crypto.
