Protocol 27 Targets September 15 Mainnet Launch

Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) is one week away from a significant technical milestone. The Core Team has targeted September 15, 2026 for the Protocol 27 Mainnet launch, bringing improved smart contract authentication and transaction authorization to the network.

The upgrade will bring automated market maker liquidity pools, smart contract authentication, and RPC infrastructure to production, completing a testnet process that has been running since late August. Pi Network began deploying Protocol 27 on Testnet 1 on August 21, allowing developers and node operators to test the new version before the planned Mainnet rollout.

The upgrade introduces more flexible and secure smart contract authentication capabilities, giving accounts and applications additional ways to authorize transactions. Protocol 27 is described as the last in the current line of planned protocol upgrades, with Protocol 28.0 already added to the future roadmap, signaling that development remains active beyond the current upgrade cycle.

What Node Operators and Pioneers Need to Know

The Core Team has set September 15, 2026 as the mandatory deadline for all nodes to complete the upgrade to version 27.1.This follows Pi Network's established upgrade methodology, which is sequential, mandatory, and built around clear deadlines to ensure network-wide consistency before the next step begins.

The obligation falls squarely on node operators. If you run a Pi node, you are required to upgrade, as nodes without a current version lost their connection to the Mainnet at the previous Protocol 26 deadline. If you only hold Pi in the app, no action is required for your balance.

The upgrade follows Protocol 26, which required all 421,000 node operators to update by August 11 or lose connectivity, clearing the path for this final planned protocol upgrade. Community members, known as Pioneers, will be watching closely to see whether the technical improvements translate into broader utility for apps and services built on the network.
