Polkadot crypto has launched a major Product Devnet update that brings new mobile and desktop apps, stronger chat encryption, and changes to its registries. The move comes as DOT price rises 8.02% in 24 hours to around $1.17, while Polkadot price data shows a 41% monthly gain in 2026.

Polkadot Devnet Update Brings Major Changes

The Polkadot Devnet update introduces a fresh version of the Product Devnet, alongside new mobile and desktop apps. The update was published on September 8, 2026, and developers and users are required to take action before moving to the new build.

For mobile users, the process starts with the recovery phrase. Users who want to keep managing their existing .dot domains must first write down their recovery phrase from the app settings. They must then clear their cloud backup, uninstall the old app, and reinstall the new version.

The order matters, as clearing the backup before saving the recovery phrase can permanently cut off access to the old account and the .dot domains connected to it. The update also changes the chat system. Encryption is moving from P-256 to X25519, meaning old encryption keys cannot be carried over. As a result, contacts and chat history will start fresh. Users will also create a new username because the cryptographic system behind personhood pseudonyms has changed.

For developers, the changes go further. The .dot name system has moved to a new set of contracts, while the contract registry has also been redeployed. Registered names remain available, but developers must update their tools and re-pin their chain descriptors.

The new mobile app adds chat search, a new tab bar, improved error messages, better multimedia downloads and an audio-device picker for calls. The desktop version now supports audio and video calls and allows users to search across chats, contacts and message text.

Developers Must Update Their Tools

The Polkadot crypto update also affects developers who have published applications on the Devnet. While registered .dot names survive the migration, some published apps may not have carried over correctly.

Developers are advised to check their published apps after updating. If an app fails to load, displays “Cannot find product,” or shows an older version, it needs to be published again using the updated tools.

The required versions are also important. Developers need newer versions of the Polkadot crypto app deploy and DotNS CLI packages because older versions still point to the retired contracts. Using an old tool can appear to work even though the changes are being made against the old system.

The CDM ContractRegistry has also moved to a new address. Developers must update their tooling and regenerate their cdm.json file so projects point to the new registry. Chain descriptors for Bulletin, Asset Hub and People also need to be regenerated and re-pinned after the runtime updates.

Polkadot (DOT) Price Shows Strong Reaction From Lows

Polkadot price has also drawn attention as the network rolls out the new Product Devnet. The available market data puts DOT at about $1.17, with the token up 8.02% over 24 hours.

The monthly performance also shows a sharp change in sentiment around the token. DOT recorded a 41% gain in 2026 on the monthly performance data provided, compared with a 4.44% gain in 2025 and a 3.97% gain in 2024. The token posted a 3.90% decline in 2023 and a 10.2% decline in 2022.

However, the longer-term Polkadot price record remains difficult. The token had fallen heavily from its previous highs, while its 2026 high and low stood at $2.32 and $0.7285, respectively.

The annual data shows that DOT gained 90.8% in 2023 before dropping 19.3% in 2024 and 73% in 2025. Despite the stronger monthly performance shown for 2026, the annual change listed in the market data remains negative at 34.3%.

Notably, the recent DOT price rise comes as Polkadot crypto focuses on privacy, applications, and wider Web3 use. However, the network still faces the larger challenge of attracting real users and building stronger demand for its products.
