Robinhood Chain has become one of the fastest-growing Layer 2 networks in DeFi since launching its public mainnet on July 1, 2026. Total value locked on the chain has climbed above $540 million in August, a rise of more than 45% month over month, according to data cited by The Block.

TVL Surges, But RWAs Are Getting Crowded Out

The chain's growth story has a notable wrinkle. In its first three weeks, Robinhood Chain drew $431 million in protocol TVL and nearly $400 million in stablecoin market cap, but memecoins accounted for more than 80% of the $9 billion-plus in DEX volume logged in that period. As capital has continued to pour in through August, the composition has shifted further. Tokenized real-world assets on the chain now stand near $32 million after growing 120% month over month, but their share of total TVL has fallen to around 6%. At launch, RWAs represented close to one third of the chain's total locked value.

The Block reported that Robinhood Chain averaged 11.6 million daily transactions in the week to August 11, a record for the network and roughly 30% above the prior week's average. Average daily active accounts rose just 3.3% week over week in mid-August and remained 11% below the peak reached on July 16, suggesting existing users traded more frequently rather than a wave of new participants joining the network.

RWAs: The Original Pitch, Now a Minority Share

Robinhood's stated focus for the chain has always been real-world assets, with tokenized stock market cap and functional on-chain utility seen as key growth drivers. FalconX strategist Martin Gaspar flagged RWAs as a potential competitive advantage for Robinhood Chain among Layer 2 solutions.

Robinhood rolled out Stock Tokens usable on-chain as ERC-20 tokens, structured as tokenized debt securities issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited and backed 1:1 by the underlying shares held with a U.S. custodian. Tokenized RWAs surged fivefold in just two weeks after launch, surpassing $70 million, with tokenized stocks led by GameStop, Nvidia and SpaceX generating substantial trading activity. By late July, the chain had roughly 328,000 RWA holders and around 97 tokenized assets live on the network, according to Crypto Briefing. Despite that growth, the broader TVL surge driven by stablecoins, lending markets and memecoin trading has diluted RWAs to a fraction of the overall picture.

Standard Chartered analyst Geoffrey Kendrick noted in a recent report that Robinhood Chain's TVL was nearing $1 billion, making it the fastest-growing blockchain by that measure. That trajectory underscores the chain's momentum, but also the challenge: the product built to bring tokenized stocks on-chain is, for now, being outpaced by the very activity Robinhood originally sought to complement.
