A Viral Video Sends CATE Surging
Solana memecoin $CATE posted a 25% gain over a 24-hour period following a turbulent trading session that drew widespread attention in the crypto community. The token had earlier staged a far more dramatic move, surging roughly 230 times in a single day after Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato, shared a kitten video on X that spread quickly across social media.
Kabosu was the Shiba Inu whose side-eyed expression became one of the internet's most recognisable memes and directly inspired the creation of Dogecoin in 2013. The association, however loose, was enough to send traders piling into CATE.
At its peak, CATE briefly reached an $11 million market capitalisation before pulling back sharply to around $4.5 million, illustrating the speed at which speculative momentum can reverse in small-cap memecoin markets.
Kabosu's Owner Distances Herself From the Token
The rally has since been clouded by a denial from Sato herself. Sato stated she has no connection to CATE or similar token projects circulating in the market. She said content from her Instagram account was used without her permission, and that fake tokens were launched using that material to falsely imply her involvement. Sato also noted that high-profile accounts on X contributed to spreading these posts, and confirmed that Own The Doge is the only project she has officially authorised to manage her intellectual property rights.
The episode is a familiar pattern in memecoin markets, where viral social content, even when unrelated to any formal project, can trigger sharp price swings before retracing just as quickly. Traders in CATE who caught the initial move saw extraordinary gains. Those who arrived late faced a steep correction.
