LayerZero is set to launch its new Layer 1 network, Zero, together with its flagship application, lzATLAS, on November 30. The date leaves a little over a month before what the project is positioning as its largest release to date. @LayerZero_Core announced the timeline on October 20, according to TokenPost.

If the launch proves successful and draws real usage, it could give a meaningful lift to $ZRO and its community. That outcome is far from guaranteed, as the token's fortunes will depend on whether trading activity actually materialises.

What is launching on November 30

Zero is LayerZero's own blockchain. Crypto Briefing reports that the network targets up to roughly 2 million transactions per second by splitting work into specialised zones covering EVM-compatible applications, trading and private payments, with verification based on zero-knowledge proofs.

lzATLAS is the first application to run on Zero. It begins with Open ATLAS, which is planned to support more than a dozen trading venues at launch, with more expected to follow this year. The mainnet is initially focused on open markets, while institutions are testing the app for larger markets such as U.S. equities and fixed income, per TokenPost. Venues are also integrating infrastructure and testing order execution and settlement ahead of go-live.

A plug-in engine rather than a consumer app

lzATLAS is notable for what it lacks. It has no consumer-facing frontend. Tron Weekly notes that ATLAS works as a "headless exchange" based on official documents, with third-party venues providing the access, distribution and trading interfaces. In practice, it is designed to sit behind other platforms and handle order matching, clearing, settlement and risk management while those platforms own the customer relationship.

The design carries a direct link to the token. According to Crypto Briefing, 75% of post-venue trading fees on ATLAS are planned to go toward buying back and burning $ZRO. The same report cautions that such a mechanism only matters if trading volume shows up.

The launch also follows institutional interest from earlier this year. CoinDesk reported in February that Citadel Securities made a strategic investment in ZRO when Zero was unveiled, and that DTCC, ICE, Google Cloud and ARK Invest were partnering or investing. The size of those investments was not disclosed.

Market watchers will focus on how many venues go live on day one and whether volume follows. According to TokenPost, ZRO was quoted at $1.846 on October 23, down 7.1% from an October 22 high near $2.
