XRP is currently trading around $1.34, with its short-term trending indicators—the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages—converging in the $1.37 to $1.38 range. This convergence forms a crucial area for XRP’s short-term outlook, as maintaining a position above or near these levels could be decisive for future price movements.
Potential Death Cross Looms
The market is on alert for the “death cross,” a technical pattern that occurs when a short-term moving average falls below a long-term moving average. Typically considered a bearish signal, the death cross often reflects past price movements rather than predicting future trends. Nonetheless, XRP’s recent price activity aligns with this scenario, stirring market caution.
In August, XRP climbed from approximately $1.00 to around $1.70, before entering a phase of sideways trading. Early October saw a noticeable loss of momentum, with prices retracting from $1.50 to $1.26, narrowing the gap between the 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
XRP’s critical range is between $1.37 and $1.38; sustaining above this area could invalidate the death cross.
Recovery Signals Attempting to Gain Strength
Despite lingering uncertainties, there are limited signs of recovery. The daily candlestick closed in positive territory, with the price stabilizing around $1.34, indicating a search for equilibrium above recent lows. The subdued trading volume during the pullback suggests that selling pressure is not overwhelmingly strong.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum indicator, is hovering near 40 and attempting to rebound from lower levels. This suggests some alleviation in selling pressures. XRP remains a closely watched asset in the crypto market, partly due to its association with Ripple Labs.
Key Levels for Upside and Downside Scenarios
For an upward scenario, XRP needs to surpass both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, establishing stability above this range. A daily close above $1.38 could slow the downward trend of these averages, while a robust close above $1.40 could pave the way for a return to the $1.50 region.
Downside risks remain. Should the price retreat from the moving averages and fall below $1.30, the likelihood of completing the death cross increases. In such a case, the immediate focus would shift to $1.26. Breaching this level could open the door to further declines, bringing sub-$1.20 values into the conversation.
Dipping below $1.30 could deepen a weak outlook; breaking $1.26 could widen the downward space.
Currently, the equilibrium remains intact with the possibility of a death cross lingering. Whether this pattern materializes hinges significantly on daily closes around the $1.38 mark. Establishing a foothold above this region could support recovery, whereas failure to do so may reignite selling pressure.
