Dominic Williams, founder of DFINITY, the developer of Internet Computer, has made striking accusations regarding the NEAR Protocol. In a lengthy statement published today on X, Williams claims that one of the core components of NEAR Intents relies on proprietary technology developed by DFINITY.

At the heart of the debate is threshold signature technology, which enables different computers to sign transactions together. According to Williams, DFINITY’s method triples the signing process compared to alternatives without compromising security.

Williams argued that the relevant work was licensed exclusively to Internet Computer. He shared some GitHub records, claiming that NEAR had been using this technology for about two and a half years and was now trying to switch to a different algorithm.

The founder of DFINITY also stated that the matter could have legal consequences.

Williams said they would be willing to share technology if a partnership offer was made on fair terms.

Internet Computer (ICP) lost approximately 7% of its value today, mirroring the overall cryptocurrency market. However, ICP, which once had a market capitalization exceeding $50 billion, is now worth only $1.52 billion.
