Former kickboxer and controversial social media personality Andrew Tate, who is currently jailed in a Miami federal prison, sent a harsh message on crypto in a recent social media post.

Andrew and his brother Tristan got arrested in Miami, Florida, on July 19 as the U.K. government seeks the brothers' extradition on rape and sex trafficking charges. On Sep. 4, Romanian prosecutors officially indicted Andrew for sexual offences and money laundering. But the brothers deny the charges brought against them.

Tate is a notorious figure in the manosphere, known for repeatedly expressing extreme misogynistic views.

Tate claims to overhear 'crypto guys' mention RAILGUN

On Sep. 4, Tate's X account posted that he overheard four "crypto guys" incarcerated in the prison saying, “We should have used Railgun.”

RAILGUN is a privacy-focused protocol that uses zero-knowledge cryptography to enable private use of smart contracts and executive anonymous cryptocurrency transactions.

Typically, onchain analytics platforms can detect transaction details such as the sender and recipient's wallet address, the cryptocurrencies, the amount, time stamps, etc. But RAILGUN's zero-knowledge cryptography obscures these details from outside observers.

Tate's post suggests the usage of such privacy protocols by bad actors. Though several individuals use these protocols only to make their transactions private, criminals also take advantage of such platforms for money laundering.

According to a report by the noted blockchain analysis platform Chainalysis, money launderers received at least $82 billion in cryptocurrencies in 2025.

Tate's relationship with crypto

Tate's crypto holdings came to light in 2023 when the Romanian authorities seized his assets, including Bitcoin wallets attributed to him, while investigating charges of sexual offences and money laundering against him.

In June 2024, he announced his support for Daddy Tate (DADDY), a Solana-based meme coin, to support patriarchy.

Though he is currently being held at the Miami jail, his X account remains active. As per a New York Post report dated July 27, Tate's attorney revealed that lawyers are taking down Tate's thoughts during their jailhouse meetings so that his team can tweet them out.
