Bitcoin Under Pressure: All Eyes on the Fed
CryptoCompass editorial visual for markets coverage.

There is more behind Bitcoin drop today than just technical selling. BTC has fallen toward $77,200, while the broader crypto market is also under pressure. Several factors are hitting the market at the same time. August US PPI came in at 5.4% year over year, above the 5.3% expectation, raising concerns that producer inflation is picking up again. On top of that, oil prices moving above $100 are adding to fears that higher energy costs could keep inflation elevated.

The bigger issue is what this means for Fed expectations. After the PPI data, markets started taking the possibility of a 25-basis-point rate hike at the next meeting much more seriously. If inflation remains sticky and oil prices stay around these levels, the Fed could be forced to keep policy tighter for longer rather than moving toward rate cuts. However, tomorrow’s CPI report will also be crucial, so it is still too early to say the Fed will definitely hike rates. $Btc

The crypto market has another problem to deal with. ETF outflows suggest that short-term institutional demand is cooling, while rising open interest despite Bitcoin’s decline shows that significant leverage is still sitting in the market. If BTC continues lower, long liquidations could accelerate the selling. On the other hand, if Bitcoin regains strength and shorts start getting squeezed, the move could quickly reverse.

For now, the key levels are clear. A sustained break below $76,392 could increase selling pressure, while reclaiming $78,650 would be the first meaningful sign that BTC is gaining strength again. A return to ETF inflows and softer macro data could also improve the overall picture. For now, the biggest risk to Bitcoin may not be Bitcoin itself, but the combination of inflation, oil and the Fed.
