Bitwise has partnered with Hargreaves Lansdown to offer Bitcoin ETPs to UK investors, putting a crypto exchange-traded product on one of Britain’s largest investment platforms.

Bitwise and Hargreaves Lansdown Expand Bitcoin ETP Access in the UK

Bitwise, a crypto-focused asset manager, is supplying the Bitcoin exchange-traded product at the center of the deal. For related coverage, see Bitcoin Back Above $77,500 as XRP Leads Majors on Lower Fed Hike Odds.

Hargreaves Lansdown, one of the UK’s best-known investment platforms for self-directed retail investors, is the distribution point named in the tie-up, according to a LinkedIn post flagging the HL and Bitwise partnership.

In plain terms, an ETP is a listed, exchange-traded wrapper that tracks the price of an underlying asset. Here, that wrapper gives Hargreaves Lansdown clients a route to Bitcoin exposure through a familiar brokerage account rather than a crypto exchange.

Hargreaves Lansdown has been preparing clients for this category, opening a registration list for crypto ETN updates ahead of wider availability.

What the Partnership Means for Hargreaves Lansdown Clients

For self-directed investors, platform availability is the whole point. A product they can hold alongside their existing funds and shares removes the friction of setting up a separate crypto exchange account.

But exposure through an ETP is not the same as owning Bitcoin directly. Investors hold a security that tracks the price; they do not control private keys or the coins themselves.

That distinction does not remove market risk. Bitcoin’s price swings flow straight through to the product, and the ETP structure adds no downside protection.

The broader significance for the UK market was underlined in Financial Times reporting on crypto products reaching UK investment platforms.

Why the UK Bitcoin ETP Move Matters

The real news is geography. The UK, not the US, is the target market, and access through a mainstream platform is what changes the picture for British investors.

Distribution through a major venue also signals a more institutional-style route for regulated Bitcoin products, rather than a niche crypto-native listing.

It lands as UK regulators reshape the rulebook. The Financial Conduct Authority is moving toward a full regime, and firms are weighing who must apply for FCA crypto authorisation before the 2027 deadline.

Europe’s parallel framework matters too, with MiCA stablecoin rules tightening reserve and redemption standards across the bloc.

Bitwise is no stranger to pushing crypto into regulated wrappers, having already seen its Solana fund become the first such ETF to reach $1 billion in assets and its XRP ETF top $500 million.

The question now: does a Bitwise product on Hargreaves Lansdown open the door for rival issuers to chase the same shelf space?
