Celo, the Ethereum Layer 2 network, has launched usebuy.ai, a marketplace that lets AI agents find and pay for digital services on their own. The catalogue covers more than 700 tools across compute, data and APIs.
The launch was developed with @helloSQD, @cencori and @ChainstackHQ, which provide infrastructure and services for the AI agent ecosystem. Privacy-focused identity platform @Selfxyz is also integrated for cases where a service requires human verification.
How the Celo agent marketplace works
The aim is to let software agents discover and buy the resources they need without a human selecting each service and arranging payment for every task. According to CoinTrust, payments on the marketplace are supported in USDC, USD₮ and USA₮, and agents operate within the permissions set by their operators.
The model also gives developers and service providers a possible sales channel for products aimed at AI-driven applications.
Payments are a recurring obstacle for autonomous software. Celo Core Co. said agents cannot sign up for accounts independently or own a credit card, which limits their ability to pay for API calls, inference and data. The x402 standard was developed to address this by turning the HTTP 402 status code into a payment step.
Building on Celo's existing AI stack
The marketplace adds to an agent-focused ecosystem that already includes a dedicated x402 facilitator and the askbots.ai platform. Celo Core Co. launched its own x402 facilitator at x402.celo.org, and Cryptowisser reported that it now runs alongside thirdweb's facilitator, bringing settlement in-house with a non-custodial design.
For $CELO, the launch is another step in the network's push to position itself as payment infrastructure for autonomous software. How much agent activity usebuy.ai attracts will depend on adoption by both tool providers and developers building agents.
