Coinbase and Moov Embed Stablecoin Capabilities Into Community Bank Infrastructure
@Coinbase has partnered with payment infrastructure provider @Moov to bring stablecoin payments, settlement, and real-time funding to more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions across the United States. The announcement, made on September 10, 2026, marks a significant step in bridging regulated crypto infrastructure with the existing plumbing of traditional community finance.
The core appeal of the deal is its approach to integration. Rather than requiring smaller institutions to build out an entirely separate crypto technology stack, Coinbase's regulated digital asset infrastructure, including custodial wallet accounts and a Payments API, is layered directly on top of the systems these banks already use. Community banks can offer stablecoin acceptance, settlement, and disbursement functions to their customers without overhauling their operations or pointing users toward third-party crypto platforms.
Moov, which connects more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions to card acquiring, card issuance, and real-time payment rails, acts as the conduit. Under the arrangement, Coinbase supplies the digital asset infrastructure while Moov connects those capabilities to the payment systems financial institutions and their customers already rely on daily.
Ryan VanGrack, Vice Chair and Head of Corporate Affairs at Coinbase, said community bank and credit union customers have been using digital assets for years, and that the partnership delivers the regulated infrastructure these institutions need to offer those services directly, rather than ceding the relationship to outside platforms.
Timing Aligns With Senate CLARITY Act Vote
The announcement arrives five days before the US Senate is scheduled to hold a cloture vote on the CLARITY Act, a bill designed to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets. The proximity of the two events is unlikely to be coincidental. By showing that traditional financial institutions are already moving to adopt stablecoin capabilities at scale, Coinbase is reinforcing the case for regulatory clarity sooner rather than later.
Neither Coinbase nor Moov specified which stablecoins would be supported through the integration. The focus remains firmly on infrastructure: the payment rails and settlement mechanics that move value, rather than any particular token.
This is not Coinbase's first move into traditional banking. The company has previously worked with major financial institutions, and the Moov partnership continues a deliberate strategy to position regulated crypto infrastructure as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, existing financial services.
