Forget the Traditional 4-Year Cycle: 5 Altcoins Worth Trying as Business Expansion Fuels the Next Crypto Wave

  • The business cycle is being used as an alternative framework for understanding crypto-market timing.
  • The five altcoins represent different sectors, including payments, smart contracts, and meme tokens.
  • A sustained altcoin move would require broader liquidity and participation rather than short-term gains in individual tokens.

The four-year crypto cycle may not fully explain the timing of the next altcoin expansion. Instead, traders are increasingly watching the broader business cycle, liquidity, and improving economic activity for clues about where the market could move next.

The post-COVID period brought an unusually large wave of monetary support and economic disruption. That adjustment took longer to work through, potentially creating a cycle that does not follow the traditional four-year pattern.

Business Expansion Could Reshape the Crypto Cycle

The business-cycle theory suggests that crypto markets can respond to changes in economic activity rather than simply following Bitcoin's halving schedule. As business conditions improve, risk appetite and liquidity can gradually return to assets outside Bitcoin.

This framework has become relevant as investors monitor indicators such as the ISM surveys and broader economic activity. If expansion continues, altcoins could receive greater attention as capital moves further down the crypto market.

The timing also matters. Bitcoin has historically attracted the first wave of capital during major market recoveries, while smaller cryptocurrencies can gain attention later as traders accept greater risk.

Litecoin Gains Attention as Altcoin Liquidity Expands

Litecoin is one of the oldest currencies in the market and has a major focus on payments and transfers. LTC has a solid track record, unlike newer smart-contract platforms or meme tokens. However, if liquidity is spread out among the large cap coins, Litecoin may continue to be a part of the rotation.

XRP Remains a Major Large-Cap Altcoin

XRP remains a significant cryptocurrency in the vast market of large-cap coins, and its story is about payments and cross-border transactions. XRP is also very important when there is a period of capital moving away from bitcoin but towards more established altcoins, because of its size. If that's the case, a wider market turn may maintain XRP's presence on traders' watchlists.

Solana Offers Exposure to the Smart-Contract Market

Despite its relatively recent launch, Solana is still one of the biggest smart-contract networks, featuring a range of decentralized finance, trading, applications, and other blockchain services. SOL can thus give exposure to multiple aspects of the altcoin economy. Improved liquidity throughout the industry may drive more focus on existing networks with strong ecosystems.

Shiba Inu Brings Meme-Token Exposure

Shiba Inu is a whole different segment of the altcoin market. It has strong correlation with meme-coin demand, retail involvement, liquidity, and overall market sentiment. If the crypto rotation eventually finds it's way to more speculative trading, SHIB may be in the mix. But meme tokens tend to have more volatility compared to the mainstream cryptocurrencies.

Gigachad Targets the Speculative End

Gigachad, or GIGA, sits further toward the speculative side of the market. Unlike Litecoin or Solana, its appeal is closely connected to the meme-token sector and changing market sentiment.

That makes GIGA particularly sensitive to liquidity and risk appetite. Its market behavior could therefore differ sharply from that of larger altcoins if conditions change.

Altcoins May Be Entering a Different Phase

The four-year cycle remains a widely followed framework, but the business cycle offers another way to examine crypto-market timing. The unusually large post-COVID expansion may have extended the time required for the broader economic cycle to develop.

For altcoins, the key issue now is whether improving business activity can translate into sustained liquidity and broader market participation. Litecoin, XRP, Solana, Shiba Inu, and Gigachad represent five different parts of that market, giving traders varied exposure if the rotation continues
