Zcash could emerge as a meaningful challenger to Bitcoin’s dominance in the digital asset space, according to a new research report from Grayscale, which argues that growing concerns over AI-powered financial surveillance are making privacy-focused cryptocurrencies increasingly valuable.
Grayscale head of research Zach Pandl stated in the report that Zcash (ZEC) holds ‘second mover advantages’ that could allow it to erode Bitcoin’s entrenched network effects, something earlier alternatives such as Litecoin (LTC) have been unable to accomplish. Central to Pandl’s case is ZEC’s ability to shield transaction data, a feature Grayscale argues will grow more important as artificial intelligence systems become more capable of analysing financial activity at scale. Zcash’s zero-knowledge proof cryptography is designed to make on-chain transactions opaque to outside observers while remaining verifiable by the network.
