Pi Network suddenly found its way back into the crypto conversation today, and the reason is pretty straightforward. The PI price moved up about 6.12% after the project announced the rollout of Protocol 26, the latest upgrade to its Mainnet network.

The chart from CoinGecko showed that the PI price was at $0.0837 and had reached its peak for the day at $0.0842. It was not an extremely bullish trend, but it was enough to make the traders interested again.

The PI Announcement That Moved the Market

This happened following an announcement by the Pi Core Team that all Mainnet node operators need to update to Protocol 26 before the 11th of  August 2026 if they do not want to lose their access to the network. This update was referred to as one of the biggest achievements before Protocol 27, the last one in the existing set.

Pi says eight successful upgrades have already been completed over the past few months, making Protocol 26 the ninth upgrade in the process. It is necessary to make the network compatible with the recent features of the protocol. It seems that this is one of those rare occasions when the crypto market reacts well to an active development of a project.

This update is not being presented as a simple maintenance patch. Pi is tying Protocol 26 to a broader push into identity, computing, and application services. The project says the upgrade supports tools such as PiVerify for identity verification, SoloHost for running apps and AI workloads on node-operated machines, and Pi Sign In for app authentication.

The message from the Pi team is that the network wants to become more than a mobile-mining ecosystem. Whether those products gain meaningful adoption is still unknown, but the market reacted to the fact that the infrastructure work is continuing.

The PI Price Is Improving, but It Is Not a Breakout Yet

We took a look at the PI chart shared by CoinGecko, and the short-term picture is improving, though the move is still relatively modest. The PI price bounced from roughly $0.0783 to about $0.0837, which lines up with the reported 6.12% gain.

The next resistance area is $0.085, then comes $0.09, and finally there is the psychological resistance level at $0.10. The next support levels, on the other hand, are at $0.0783. In case of a breakout below this level, traders would look towards $0.075 and $0.07.

Another thing to be observed is the volume of trades. There was not much action from the investors, as the volume was only $11 million, which is low considering a token with a market cap of $916 million. Low volumes often lead to increased volatility in prices.

Today, the upgrade might have been beneficial for the sentiment of the token, but the problem of supply is bigger. The circulating supply of Pi is about 10.95 billion PI while the max. supply is 100 billion PI. This is the reason for the fully diluted valuation being $1.41 billion.

If more tokens enter circulation faster than demand grows, that can weigh on price performance. PiScan data has also pointed to sizable unlock schedules later this year, including months with more than 120 million PI entering circulation.

Is This the Start of a Larger Rally for PI?

At this stage, the move looks more like a reaction to a clear network event than proof that a major bull trend has begun. The PI price is still far below earlier highs, trading volume remains relatively light, and large token unlocks are still ahead.

The next important signal will be whether node operators complete the upgrade smoothly before the 11 August deadline and whether products such as PiVerify and SoloHost begin attracting real usage.

For now, the PI price got a boost because traders saw active development and a concrete deadline. The bigger question is whether the upgraded network can generate enough real demand to keep that momentum alive after the initial excitement fades.
