Litecoin experienced renewed volatility in early September as its price pulled back after a significant rally. The decline came amid a surge of new activity around its MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB), a privacy-oriented upgrade designed to enhance transaction confidentiality and scalability on the Litecoin blockchain.

MWEB Addresses Hit Record Highs

Recent data shows that the number of Litecoin MWEB addresses reached an all-time high. A social media update from the Litecoin team highlighted this development, featuring the message, “Another day, another new ATH for Litecoin on MWEB addresses. Now start using it!” At the time of this announcement, the MWEB balance stood at 563,117 LTC, valued at $29.48 million based on prevailing prices.

This continued growth in MWEB adoption points to increasing interest from the community in Litecoin’s improved privacy and scalability features. Analysts suggest that such on-chain trends could bolster the underlying network, even as the asset’s price fluctuates in the short term.

Litecoin is a prominent cryptocurrency known for its swift, low-fee transactions and as one of the earliest alternatives to Bitcoin, often referred to as a “silver to Bitcoin’s gold.”

Mini dictionary: MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB) are an upgrade to the Litecoin blockchain, enabling more private and scalable transactions by using confidential transactions and extension blocks. This allows users to send LTC without revealing amounts or addresses.

At the latest check, Litecoin traded around $52.58, marking a 1.17% decline in the past 24 hours. Despite this pullback, LTC remains significantly higher than the $44–$45 range that dominated August trading. Earlier in September, Litecoin broke above $49.32, surged to the $55–$56 region, and briefly moved past $58 before slipping back.

The $49.32 level has emerged as an important support threshold. Analysts observe that maintaining prices above this benchmark could sustain Litecoin’s bullish momentum. Conversely, a break below could see the asset drift towards the $44.86 support zone.

Several momentum indicators signal a positive outlook for Litecoin. The MACD remains above the zero line, with values of 1.72 for the MACD line and 1.57 for the signal line, while the histogram sits at 0.15. Despite the rally slowing, these figures suggest that bullish momentum could persist if support levels are maintained.

Derivatives Activity and Trading Volumes

Open interest (OI) in Litecoin futures increased alongside the price rally, signaling heightened trading interest. Data from CoinGlass indicated that OI was range-bound between $300 million and $350 million during July and most of August. As the rally gained steam in late August and early September, OI climbed toward $400 million, briefly exceeding that figure on September 7.

By September 10, OI settled around $390 million, still notably higher than earlier levels. The uptick in open interest, together with increased spot activity, points to greater engagement from derivatives traders, though the slight decrease after the rally’s peak may reflect some profit-taking as the price lost momentum.

Trading volumes mirrored these trends. According to CoinGlass, daily volume surged to between $650 million and $680 million during the first week of September, coinciding with Litecoin’s upward move. While volume subsided as the price retreated, it remained elevated compared to prior trading days.

Another day, another new ATH for Litecoin on MWEB addresses. Now start using it!

Analysts and traders are watching the $49.32 support closely. A move above the $55–$56 band could trigger renewed bullish momentum in Litecoin’s price.
