No Ripple CEO standing in the White House. No trillions processed through the network. No CLARITY Act. With XRP currently rising again, his message was that market participants should “Never underestimate an XRP pump.”
XRP surged 12% after the recent White House crypto summit, breaking through the $1.081 resistance level it had compressed beneath for weeks. The asset climbed to $1.42 in the days that followed, and now sits at $1.30. The 2017 run happened with nothing. This one has an entirely different backdrop.
What Is Driving XRP Now?
Brad Garlinghouse attended the White House Crypto Summit on August 19. President Trump personally introduced him alongside SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Michael Selig, and executives from Coinbase, Chainlink, and others. Trump called on Congress to pass a fair version of the CLARITY Act, describing it as legislation that will “keep us ahead of China.”
The summit also launched the CFTC’s Innovation Advisory Committee, a 35-member panel that includes Ripple. CFTC Chair Selig confirmed his agency will advance formal crypto market rules under existing authority even if the CLARITY Act stalls. The SEC has also proposed its own framework, and Ripple now has a seat inside the regulatory process at every level.
The post drew strong reactions. While many share the positive sentiment, several community members pushed back on Bitlord directly, given that he had recently declared he was “slowly starting to hate” XRP after the asset dropped below $1 despite a major Korean banking partnership announcement.
One commenter called him out for labeling XRP negatively just days prior. Another questioned why his view had shifted so quickly given his recent stance. Another commenter suggested his position had flipped too many times to track.
Not everyone was critical. One community member agreed that XRP pumps should never be underestimated. Another predicted the asset would reach $10, and another called for a new all-time high.
What’s Next for XRP?
In 2017, XRP reached $3 with none of today’s fundamentals in place. Garlinghouse now sits on a CFTC advisory body. The SEC is writing exemption frameworks for digital assets. The President is calling for crypto legislation from the White House. Crypto Bitlord’s warning about underestimating an XRP pump lands differently when the asset is moving with all of that behind it.
