Mexican federal prosecutors, the navy and state security officers raided a clandestine cryptocurrency operation in the mountains of Puebla state, seizing 300 graphics processing units, 80 medium-voltage terminals, eight satellite antennas and a transformer.
The site sat in a ramshackle building off a sparsely travelled gravel road in Tlaola, in the Sierra Norte region, according to a statement from Puebla’s government dated 6 September and reporting by Reuters. Investigators are examining whether the operation was drawing power from infrastructure linked to a nearby hydroelectric system, and whether the crypto it produced was used to conceal proceeds from other crimes.
