Key Insights:

  • PayPal is expanding PYUSD, agentic AI payments, and biometric authentication as part of its long-term crypto strategy.
  • Despite an $81 million crypto-related hit, PayPal beat revenue estimates and raised its full-year earnings outlook.
  • Kraken’s support for PYUSD on Stellar strengthens PayPal’s push into faster, low-cost cross-border stablecoin payments.

PayPal executives are leaning hard into the future as the company integrates stablecoins, agentic AI-driven payments, and biometric ID tools into its core strategy this quarter.

The PYUSD stablecoin, launched in 2023, now reaches users in 70 markets worldwide. Users can buy, hold, send, and receive it directly in PayPal accounts and transfer it to external wallets, CoinMarketCap reported. Merchants get proceeds in minutes instead of days.

PayPal Books $81M Crypto Hit in Q2 Amid Strong Revenue Beat

Amid the stablecoin advancement, PayPal reported Q2 revenue of $8.68 billion, beating estimates handily. GAAP EPS came in at $1.26, just under the $1.28 forecast, while non-GAAP metrics showed resilience.

The $81 million non-GAAP adjustment tied to crypto and strategic investment holdings weighed on results, contributing to the earnings miss. Nevertheless, core payments volume stayed robust at hundreds of billions.

Despite the profit miss, PayPal remains committed to expanding PYUSD, with stablecoin adoption across payments, wallets, and cross-border transfers still a key focus.

Three months ago, PayPal warned that profits could fall this year. It has now raised its full-year EPS guidance to $5.38.

While the board has not provided an update on Stripe and Advent’s $60.50 bid, CEO Enrique Loras said PayPal remains “open” to a better offer.

Yahoo Finance data showed that PayPal stock fell about 2% after reporting second-quarter results that exceeded Wall Street expectations but issued a softer third-quarter outlook and offered no update on potential strategic transactions.

As of the time of writing, the stock had risen 0.45% to $58.58, still below the $60.50 offer from Stripe and private equity firm Advent.

Despite the jump in price, PYPL stock is still 80% below its all-time high set in 2021 during the pandemic-driven surge in e-commerce.

The company now aims to spend the rest of this year and much of 2027 rebuilding its consumer business, expanding it, and modernizing its technology.

Kraken Adds PYUSD Support on the Stellar Network

The PYUSD stablecoin update this week was further bolstered by news of Kraken Exchange adding the token on the Stellar Network.

Kraken users can now make PYUSD deposits and withdrawals on the Stellar network, opening fast, low-cost cross-border rails.

Both retail investors and institutions can now move PayPal’s dollar-pegged token with Stellar’s speed for tokenized assets and payments.

This integration is one of many that have strengthened Stellar’s position as a leading ecosystem for regulated digital dollars. Over time, Stellar has integrated more stablecoins, such as USDC, EURC, PYUSD, and Native Circle CCTP, and each addition strengthens the overall network.

What This Means for PayPal’s Crypto Strategy Going Forward?

PayPal is betting big on the PYUSD stablecoin as a bridge between traditional finance and on-chain rails. Expansion to 70 markets, Stellar integration on Kraken, and agentic payments signal serious intent.

The company is positioning its network, risk engine, and trust layer for the next wave of digital dollar usage.

PayPal is bridging Web2 scale to DeFi by deploying native dollar liquidity across Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, and other supported chains.

For investors hunting yield on stable assets like PYUSD and institutions needing fast settlement, PayPal just marked another step toward mainstream on-chain payments.
