Eight Billion and Counting
@0xPolygon has crossed a landmark threshold, with its cumulative transaction count officially surpassing 8 billion. The figure, tracked by ChainSpect, is roughly equivalent to one transaction for every person on Earth, and underscores how far the network has travelled since its mainnet launch in May 2020.
The milestone did not arrive overnight. Polygon closed the second quarter of 2026 with 743 million transactions, an all-time quarterly record and a 160% increase from the same period a year earlier. That surge pushed the lifetime total over the eight billion mark in the weeks that followed, with the chain passing 7.8 billion cumulative transactions around July 29, 2026.
A Network Built for Real-World Use
The transaction growth is not simply a vanity metric. The milestone reflects Polygon's aggressive positioning as infrastructure for stablecoin payments, with the network processing $79.25 billion in stablecoin transfer volume across 198 million stablecoin transactions in May alone, putting it first among all blockchains by stablecoin transaction count. That figure surpassed both Solana and BNB Chain during the period.
Cost and speed remain central to the network's appeal. Polygon offers average fees of about $0.002 per transaction and confirmation times of around two seconds, making it a practical choice for high-frequency, low-value transfers where Ethereum mainnet fees would be prohibitive. Data cited by Polygon Labs show that gas fees on Ethereum are 426 times more expensive than on Polygon.
Payment-focused projects built on Polygon generated $9.9 billion in transaction volume during the first half of 2026, a figure that exceeded Polygon's total payment-related volume for the entire year of 2025. The network has also attracted enterprise adoption, with Revolut crossing $1.2 billion in cumulative transaction volume on Polygon.
With eight billion transactions confirmed and quarterly volume hitting records, the question for the market now is whether the underlying $POL token can close the gap between network usage and price performance.
