Polygon (@0xPolygon) is adding automated payout runs to its Open Money Stack (OMS), targeting businesses that make repeat payments. Teams can set up payees, budget and schedule once, without approving each transaction individually.
Once a run starts, the wallet automatically checks each payment against the established rules. The feature is intended for global payments to vendors, creators, contractors and partners.
How automated payout runs work
Polygon introduced the feature on October 12, letting teams predefine recipients, budgets and active windows for recurring stablecoin distributions. A team approves the recipient scope, payment budget and run window once, then its product can request payments during that window without collecting a new signature for every transfer.
Once the cycle starts, applications submit payout requests and the wallet checks every transaction against the approved terms, while the active rule can be revoked at any time. A request outside the approved terms is rejected at the wallet contract.
The controls are recorded onchain. They are stored in the OMS Sessions Module, which prevents a backend service from independently widening recipient scope, increasing spending limits or extending an expiry. The permission can also be limited to the calls needed for the payout workflow, rather than giving a service unrestricted access to every action the wallet supports.
Polygon is positioning the product for specific use cases. These include cross-border e-commerce, outsourced labor platforms and creator revenue-sharing programs. The feature draws on the platform's existing funding, custody and routing infrastructure.
Open questions and wider context
Some operational details remain unclear. DeFi Prime notes the launch announcement does not name a contract deployment, a launch time or a live payout amount. It also does not specify retry behavior, request ordering or how partial runs are reconciled. Crypto Economy says the next test is whether businesses adopt the system for recurring global payment flows.
The release fits a broader payments push around OMS. Polygon Labs first unveiled the Open Money Stack in January as a modular framework that lets financial institutions and fintech firms integrate components such as onchain settlement, fiat access and compliance tools. Polygon said on September 29 that more than $3 trillion in stablecoins has moved on Polygon Chain.
