@Sei_Labs says the next $SEI network release, v6.8, will shrink the core code of @SeiNetwork by about 165,000 lines, which it describes as the biggest cleanup in the network's history. The update adds 239,000 lines and removes 404,000, according to the developer.

Roughly 70% of the removals come from legacy components retired under SIP-3, the plan that is turning Sei into an EVM-only chain. Version 6.8 is now in final testing, and Sei Labs expects the figures to grow further before release.

SIP-3 and the Move to an EVM-Only Chain

SIP-3 is a governance proposal to deprecate Sei's Cosmos layer. The Sei community approved it in May 2025 , and once it is fully in place, only EVM addresses will be able to send transactions on Sei, with Cosmos-based transactions phased out.

Sei co-founder Jayendra Jog has previously said the scale of the work is large. He said the code changes needed for SIP-3 are enormous and involve removing hundreds of thousands of lines of code. Sei's own documentation lists SIP-3 as a pre-Giga consolidation to an EVM-only stack, with the status shown as in progress.

Eidos and the Giga Target

The new code also brings Eidos, the storage rebuild for Sei Giga, close to completion. According to the Giga roadmap, Eidos replaces Merkle trees with a flat key-value store and separates hot state from cold archives. Eidos sits alongside other planned components. The Giga upgrade includes the Ares execution client, Eidos state management, and Autobahn consensus.

Sei Giga targets 200,000 transactions per second. Sei's documentation states that the figure is a separate roadmap target for the Autobahn testnet, while more than 5 gigagas per second has been sustained on an internal devnet. Independent coverage has noted that the 200,000+ TPS figure comes from an internal, geographically distributed devnet under controlled conditions , so it has not been demonstrated on mainnet. Sei Labs has not confirmed a fixed mainnet launch date for the full Giga upgrade , according to Cryptonews.

The v6.8 release is another step in that sequence. Removing the legacy Cosmos code is intended to leave a smaller codebase for the storage and execution work that Giga depends on. The final line counts will only be known once v6.8 is released.
