Shibarium TVL Drops 74% in Two Days
Shibarium, the Layer 2 network built to scale the Shiba Inu ecosystem, has suffered a sharp liquidity exodus. Its total value locked (TVL) fell from $121,860 on August 26 to around $31,513 as of August 28, a decline of roughly 74% in just 48 hours. The drop arrives even as prices for ethereum:0x95ad61b0a150d79219dcf64e1e6cc01f0b64c4ce and other tokens in the Shibarium ecosystem posted modest gains, making the TVL collapse stand out as a demand-side problem rather than a simple market selloff.
Trading activity on Shibarium's DEX platforms has also dropped dramatically in recent weeks, and the network is built as a Layer 2 blockchain on Ethereum, designed to improve Shiba Inu ecosystem scalability, speed up transaction times, and minimize fees. The latest TVL reading suggests those ambitions are currently far from being realised.
A Persistent Adoption Problem
The August plunge is the latest episode in a long-running struggle for Shibarium to attract meaningful capital. Given that $SHIB's market capitalisation remains in the billions, a TVL in the tens of thousands is a stark indicator that decentralised applications and users are not embracing the chain at scale.TVL, recurring DEX volume, fee revenue, and independent application usage are considered the stronger indicators of genuine adoption, and on each of those measures Shibarium continues to disappoint.
Burn efforts tied to Shibarium rely on the network being used for real transactions, which currently is not happening at scale, and the low TVL shows that demand for network usage remains minimal. For burns to meaningfully impact price, Shibarium needs to process millions of daily transactions consistently, yet the current daily transaction count on Shibarium remains in the low thousands.
The lack of TVL confirms that Shibarium has not found a unique, compelling use case needed to attract developers and users away from established Layer 2 networks. Competing chains such as Arbitrum and Optimism continue to dwarf Shibarium on every on-chain metric, and the gap is widening rather than narrowing.
