Sky Token Price Update: Why Standard Chartered Sees Stronger Growth

A fresh outlook on Sky token price is turning heads across the digital asset space. Standard Chartered has started coverage on $SKY, the governance token behind the rebranded MakerDAO ($MKR) project, and the bank's call is bold.

Analyst Geoff Kendrick set a year-end 2028 target of $0.325, roughly five times the token's current level near $0.065. The note arrived on September 11, 2026, and it places Sky among the more closely tracked names in decentralized finance.

Standard Chartered Calls Sky Protocol DeFi's Federal Bank Model Now

Kendrick's note frames Sky as something close to a central bank for decentralized finance. He points to its role as the third-largest stablecoin issuer, trailing only Tether and Circle, and the largest issuer of yield-bearing stablecoins through sUSDS. That product alone holds close to $4.5 billion in total value locked.

The comparison fits how Sky operates. It sets lending terms for its network of Agents, issues its own stablecoins, and manages monetary-style policy through governance votes.

Bank Roadmap Points To Fivefold Growth In Sky Token Price By 2028

The bank's roadmap includes checkpoints along the way. Reports point to:

  • an intermediate mark near $0.08 by the end of 2026,

  • around $0.18 in 2027,

  • and the $0.325 target in 2028.

The thesis leans on growth in USDS, the stablecoin that replaced DAI, feeding more value back to $SKY holders through staking rewards and buybacks.

Standard Chartered also expects $SKY to move in step with its Ethereum forecast, which calls for $18,000 by 2028, while outperforming its Bitcoin target of $300,000.

Broader stablecoin adoption is central to that math, with the firm projecting the overall stablecoin market could approach $2 trillion within the same window.

SKY Token Price Today: Token Up on the Bullish Forecast News

Current Sky token price as of September 12 sits around $0.0633, up roughly 6% over the past day. Other major states as per CoinMarketCap are follow:

SKY Token Price Today

  • Market capitalization: near $1.48 billion

  • 24-hour trading volume: about $31.3 million

  • All-time high: $0.1014, reached in December 2024

  • All-time low: $0.0343, touched in February 2025

  • Total and maximum supply: 23.46 billion SKY

  • Circulating supply: 23.42 billion SKY

Sky Tokenomics Show Staking Rewards And Buyback Plans Growing Fast

Sky's tokenomics changed meaningfully since the MakerDAO rebrand. $MKR holders converted at a fixed rate of 1 $MKR to 24,000 $SKY, and new token emissions are now switched off. Holders can stake $SKY to earn rewards, use it as governance power, or post it as collateral to borrow USDS.

A second stage of staking rewards launched in August 2026. Under the updated framework, protocol surplus now splits roughly as follows:

  • 22.5% toward SKY buybacks that fund staking rewards

  • 22.5% toward USDS staking rewards

  • 5% toward SKY buy-and-burn activity

  • Up to 50% held back in the Surplus Buffer

This structure ties rewards directly to real protocol revenue rather than new token creation, and the first burns under the new model are expected soon.

USDS Growth And Market Risks Shape Sky's Long-Term Roadmap Plan

Protocol revenue has held up well. Gross revenue for the second quarter of 2026 came in near $107 million, and reserves continue building toward higher buffer targets. Agent network activity, including projects such as Spark and Grove, keeps expanding borrowing capacity and institutional use cases.

Standard Chartered flagged one main risk: slower-than-expected growth in yield-bearing stablecoins could delay the pace of returns to SKY holders. Governance activity remains steady too, with a recent executive proposal covering monthly settlement, treasury parameters, and an increased penalty for MKR holders who have not yet converted.

SKY token price's next phase depends on execution rather than promises. USDS adoption, Agent network utilization, and consistent surplus generation will decide how closely the Sky token price tracks Standard Chartered's roadmap.
