Strategy chair Michael Saylor signaled potential additional Bitcoin investments with a post on X, writing “There’s always room for more orange” on Sunday. His statement prompted speculation about further acquisitions of the cryptocurrency by the company.
SEC filing expected after federal holiday
An official disclosure regarding Strategy’s recent Bitcoin acquisitions is not expected to be filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission before Tuesday. The delay is due to federal offices being closed for the Columbus Day holiday on Monday.
Major stock and Bitcoin acquisitions in late September
As September ended, Strategy spent more than six times its normal weekly Bitcoin purchasing budget to repurchase one of its preferred stocks. The company acquired 334 BTC for $28.7 million between September 28 and October 4. This increased its total holdings to 848,000 BTC, based on an October 5 SEC 8-K filing.
Additionally, Strategy repurchased approximately 1.77 million shares of its STRC preferred stock for $176.3 million during the same period.
The pattern of significant acquisitions in both Bitcoin and preferred shares has led observers to consider whether Strategy aims to preserve cash on hand for potential future Bitcoin purchases.
Strategy is a business intelligence and technology company known for its aggressive Bitcoin investment strategy. Led by Michael Saylor, the company regularly allocates company resources to add to its cryptocurrency reserves.

Analysts weigh in on capital allocation
Independent analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera observed that Strategy raised $5.41 billion from new common share sales during the third quarter. According to Perera, the company ended the period with 1,666 more BTC than it held at the close of June.
Perera detailed in his monthly newsletter on Bitcoin and crypto that Strategy’s SEC filings direct 9.5% of the newly raised funds towards Bitcoin purchases. Other allocations included building dollar reserves, paying cash dividends, and buying back preferred shares.
“The question for investors is what the financing left behind. For a shareholder, bitcoin per share is only part of the answer. Cash counts too, while debt and preferred shares have claims ahead of common stock. Raising capital does not necessarily mean buying bitcoin.”
Perera argued that although raising capital could enable future Bitcoin purchases, much of the funds are dedicated to strengthening the company’s balance sheet and rewarding preferred shareholders.
“That does not mean they stopped buying BTC. Cash retained can fund later purchases, and strengthening the balance sheet can benefit shareholders.”
Market watchers continue to monitor Strategy’s capital management and Bitcoin acquisition strategy for signs of further significant moves in the digital asset market.
