Bitcoin is trading near $77,205 after bouncing off its recent lows. The world's largest cryptocurrency added more than $3,000 from the bottom but could not clear $80,000. It's now down a small 0.03% on the day.
The August CPI report came out on September 11. Annual inflation landed at 3.4%, right in line with what economists expected.
The next big test for Bitcoin's price is not a chart pattern. It's a decision coming out of Washington.
Investors Brace for the Fed's First Hike in Three Years
Investors now believe the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its September 16 meeting. It would be the first hike in three years.
CME FedWatch data puts the odds of a 25 basis point hike at 87.3%. A month ago, that number was just 40.6%. That's a sharp move in a short window.
Only 12.7% of traders still expect the Fed to hold steady.
Former Fed Vice Chair Richard Clarida doesn't think one hike will be the end of it. He expects more to follow. Markets are now pricing in at least three hikes by next June, up from two previously.
A single 25-basis-point move won't do much on its own to cool inflation. That's likely why traders are reading this as the start of a longer tightening cycle, not a one-off.
Bitcoin ETFs Extend Their Losing Streak
Money has been quietly leaving Bitcoin ETFs. SoSoValue data shows U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $13.29 million in net outflows on September 11, the fourth straight day in the red.
Not every fund is bleeding, though. Morgan Stanley's MSBT bucked the trend, pulling in $3.76 million, the largest single-day inflow among spot Bitcoin ETFs that day.

Futures volume jumped sharply even as open interest fell. That usually means traders are actively closing or trimming leveraged bets rather than opening fresh ones. The options market is telling a similar story, with rising volume but falling open interest.
As per CoinGlass data, the long/short ratio of 0.9685 points to a slightly bearish tilt overall. Still, Binance and OKX account data show traders on those exchanges lean more toward long positions.
The Charts Point to a Market Caught in Between
On the 4-hour chart, Bitcoin is forming a broad, rounded consolidation pattern. Support sits around $76,000. Resistance is up near $82,000.
Buyers keep stepping in near the $76,000 to $76,500 zone. That's a decent sign for now.
Still, Bitcoin trades below its 20 EMA ($77,681), 50 EMA ($78,219), and 100 EMA ($77,552), a sign of short-term weakness. The 200 EMA at $74,848 sits further below, keeping the bigger picture a little more stable.
RSI is at 41.45, showing weak momentum. It hasn't dropped into oversold territory, so there's no strong bounce signal from that alone.
The Key Levels That Could Decide Bitcoin's Next Move
If Bitcoin holds the $76,000 to $76,500 zone and can push above $78,000 to $78,500, the next targets become $80,000, then $81,500 to $82,000. A clean break above $82,000 could open a path toward $84,000 to $85,000.
On the flip side, a confirmed 4-hour close below $76,000 could send Bitcoin down toward $74,800 to $75,000, close to the 200 EMA.
Right now, the setup leans neutral to slightly bearish in the short term. It stays cautiously constructive as long as $76,000 holds. Keep an eye on $78,500 as the level that could flip momentum, and $82,000 as the bigger wall overhead.
With the Fed decision just days away, volatility could pick up fast in either direction.
