Abound picks Monad for its next chapter
Abound, the super app for Indians in the US backed by Times Internet (Times of India Group), has crossed $500 million in remittance volume, with the US-India corridor accounting for the bulk of transactions. The company, known by its handle @joinabound, announced this week that its next product suite will be built on the @monad blockchain.
What began as a smarter way to send money home has evolved into a comprehensive super app for NRI life, spanning cross-border payments, savings, and everyday benefits designed around the needs of Indians living in the US.Abound was spun off by Times Internet in 2023 and was initially launched under the name Times Club before rebranding.
The new product roadmap includes a multi-currency wallet, yield-bearing savings and investment accounts, and an AI agent-driven payment protocol.A new digital wallet product is currently accepting registrations for a waitlist, though no specific release date has been provided.
Why Monad
Monad is a high-performance, institutional-grade Layer 1 blockchain enabling open access to rewards, AI agents, and fair financial markets on neutral ground. The integration gives Abound the technology foundation to serve the Indian diaspora at scale, with the performance and reliability a community of global earners expects.
The move into blockchain infrastructure follows a broader push to deepen financial services for the Indian diaspora. In 2024, India recorded $129.1 billion in remittances, accounting for a 14.3% share of the global market and topping the charts, according to a World Bank report. Abound is positioning itself to capture a meaningful slice of that flow by expanding beyond remittance into savings, investment, and agentic payment products.
CEO Nishkaam Mehta said the company's roadmap is about "building agents to seamlessly manage the NRI's entire financial life, with the trust of our community at the center of everything we do."
