Summary
- Upbit will delist BONK because unresolved security and disclosure issues violated its listing standards.
- Users can trade BONK until September 7, 2026, while withdrawals remain available through October 7, protecting holders during the transition period.
- South Korean exchanges are enforcing stricter listing requirements emphasizing governance, security standards, and timely public disclosures across digital assets.
South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit will delist Bonk Inu (BONK) after concluding that the project no longer satisfies its digital asset listing requirements. The decision follows a weeks-long compliance review that examined the project’s security measures, governance standards, and disclosure practices under South Korea’s regulatory framework.
Trading support for BONK will end on September 7, 2026, at 15:00 KST, when Upbit will automatically cancel all pending buy and sell orders, while users will have until October 7 to withdraw their holdings.
According to Upbit, trading activity and price performance did not influence its decision, as the exchange concluded that several compliance issues remained unresolved despite an additional review period, leading to BONK’s delisting from the platform.
The token entered Upbit’s trading caution category in early July after the exchange identified concerns requiring further assessment. Since then, Upbit reviewed whether the project had addressed the outstanding issues before reaching its conclusion.

Upbit cites unresolved risks despite extended review
Upbit explained that its review uncovered unresolved security concerns involving wallets or the blockchain infrastructure supporting BONK, adding that the underlying causes behind those incidents had not been adequately identified or fully resolved. Upbit also criticized the project’s handling of material disclosures, stating that important information was not communicated promptly through appropriate disclosure channels and concluding that BONK no longer met the transparency standards required for listed digital assets.
Following the review, Upbit determined that the identified concerns remained unresolved and therefore decided to terminate trading support under its digital asset delisting policy instead of extending the monitoring period.
Investors holding BONK on Upbit have been advised to withdraw their tokens before the withdrawal deadline expires; otherwise, they could face difficulties accessing those assets through the exchange once support officially ends.
South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges have strengthened their listing standards as regulators push for stronger investor protection and greater market transparency, consequently placing greater emphasis on governance, security controls, and timely public disclosures when evaluating listed projects.
Projects seeking to remain listed must demonstrate effective operational management while maintaining clear communication with investors, besides responding promptly to material incidents affecting their networks or users and meeting technical requirements.
Delisting affects Upbit users without changing global availability
Upbit’s decision applies only to its own marketplace and does not prevent BONK from trading on international cryptocurrency exchanges. However, the move represents another example of South Korean exchanges enforcing stricter compliance standards as regulatory expectations continue to evolve.
BONK’s removal from Upbit highlights the increasing importance of security, governance, and transparent disclosures for digital asset projects operating in South Korea. Although the token remains available on other exchanges, Upbit’s decision reinforces that meeting regulatory and compliance expectations has become just as important as maintaining market activity.
