A debate inside the XRP community intensified this week after Anodos founder Panos Mekras explained why his company is shifting its focus toward Solana, arguing that XRPL currently lacks the liquidity, activity and integrations needed to build the type of DeFi product Anodos wants.
The timing made the exchange more interesting.
One day later, Ripple announced an integration with Privy, a Stripe company, that will bring embedded and programmable wallets to the XRP Ledger. The new tools will let developers build products using XRP, RLUSD and other XRPL assets without forcing users to manage their own keys.
That prompted pro-Ripple lawyer Bill Morgan to respond to Mekras with a short message: “Not 0 integrations and activity apparently.”
Panos Says Solana Currently Offers Anodos More
On October 12, Mekras reflected on more than a decade in the XRP community and three years building within the XRPL ecosystem.
He said he would remain an XRP holder and supporter of XRPL, but Anodos is now doubling down on its app and taking a chain-agnostic approach.
When Morgan wished him luck with Solana, Mekras explained the decision more directly.
His argument was that users ultimately care about the product experience, not which blockchain operates underneath it. For Anodos, he said Solana currently provides the technology and ecosystem needed to build a sustainable application.
The discussion became more heated after another X user accused Anodos of moving to whichever blockchain would fund the company.
Mekras rejected that claim and said the problem was commercial viability on XRPL, writing that there was “0 liquidity, activity, integrations.”
That wording is the part worth examining more closely.
The Data Supports the Gap With Solana, but Not Literally “Zero”
Current on-chain data gives some support to Mekras’ broader complaint about ecosystem scale, although “zero” is clearly an exaggeration if interpreted literally.
DefiLlama currently tracks roughly $41 million in XRPL DeFi TVL, around $6.1 million in daily DEX volume and about $40 million in DEX volume over seven days. XRPL also recorded roughly 40,600 active addresses and 2.58 million transactions over the latest 24-hour period.

Solana operates on a very different scale.
DefiLlama currently lists about $6 billion in Solana DeFi TVL and roughly $2.04 billion in daily DEX volume. The network also recorded around 3.22 million active addresses and 117.7 million transactions over 24 hours.
Using those figures, Solana’s DeFi TVL is roughly 146 times XRPL’s, and its daily DEX volume is more than 300 times larger.
That helps explain why a DeFi-focused builder might currently find Solana commercially more attractive.
It does not mean XRPL has no activity or integrations.

Ripple’s Privy Deal Arrives at an Interesting Time
Ripple’s October 13 announcement provided an immediate counterpoint to the debate.
Privy confirmed that it is partnering with Ripple to bring programmable wallet infrastructure to XRPL. Developers will be able to create wallets programmatically, sign XRPL transactions and build experiences using XRP, RLUSD and other assets.
The integration is specifically aimed at reducing friction.
Payment companies and fintech applications can offer embedded wallets without making users manage seed phrases or private keys directly. Privy also plans to support programmable wallets for AI agents, including x402 payments.
Privy says XRPL has more than 8 million funded accounts and has processed more than $1 trillion in transferred value over its lifetime.
Ripple has also been working on agent-based payments separately. In June, it introduced an XRPL AI Starter Kit with support for x402 payments using XRP and RLUSD.
So Morgan’s response has a factual basis: XRPL plainly does have integrations and activity.
Our Take
Both sides are talking about slightly different things.
Mekras appears to be making a business argument about what Anodos needs today. Solana offers vastly deeper DeFi liquidity, far higher decentralized trading volume and a much larger active-user base based on current data.
Morgan is challenging the literal claim that XRPL has no integrations or activity, and Ripple’s Privy announcement makes that wording difficult to defend.
The more useful question is whether integrations such as Privy can eventually translate into the type of liquidity and application activity that builders like Anodos are looking for.
An integration announcement alone does not close a 100x-plus ecosystem gap.
But it does show that XRPL development is continuing, and that the debate is less about whether anything is being built and more about whether enough is being built to make XRPL competitive for consumer DeFi applications today.
