Crypto Teacher James Rule XRP has urged cryptocurrency users to be careful when choosing platforms after the United Kingdom sanctioned five crypto and payment businesses accused of helping Russia evade financial restrictions.
In a post on X, James Rule XRP named Cryptomus, Heleket, TokenSpot, Tsunami Payments and Processing KG. The UK has frozen assets belonging to the targeted entities within its jurisdiction and prohibited individuals and businesses in the country from sending them money.
The sanctions reflect the UK government’s efforts to disrupt financial networks that allegedly help Russia bypass international restrictions. They also show how authorities are paying closer attention to crypto payment services that facilitate cross-border transactions.
James Rule XRP Warns About Copycat Websites
James Rule XRP focused on a risk that crypto users may face after authorities sanction a platform: scammers can use the situation to trick people into sending them money.
“When a platform gets hit like this, copycat sites often pop up under a new name,” he wrote. He then gave users a simple warning: “Check before you send.”
Scammers can make these copycat sites look convincing by using similar names and logos. Users who sign up or send funds without checking the platform could unknowingly send their crypto to a scammer.
The UK action also highlights the importance of checking who operates a crypto service. Cryptomus and Heleket have links to Xeltox Enterprises Ltd., a company registered in Canada. The other three targeted entities, TokenSpot, Tsunami Payments and Processing KG, have connections to Kyrgyzstan.
UK authorities also linked some of the platforms to the A7 network, which uses the ruble-pegged A7A5 stablecoin. Officials said the network claimed to have handled more than $90 billion in transactions.
For crypto users, this is a reminder not to trust a platform simply because its name looks familiar. A website operating under a new name or claiming to replace a sanctioned service may have no connection to the original company.
What Crypto Users Should Do Before Sending Funds
James Rule XRP’s warning encourages users to take a few steps to verify a platform before making a transaction. Users can protect themselves by visiting a platform’s official website, checking its company details, and looking for updates from verified sources before sending any money. They should also double-check wallet addresses and payment instructions, particularly when a service claims to have moved to a new website.
