Privacy protocol @zama has reached a significant milestone, crossing $100M in shielded total value locked (TVL). Notably, the final $10M of that figure was added in just five days, pointing to a clear pickup in momentum as more capital moves into confidential onchain finance.
The milestone was confirmed on the official Zama community forum on October 5, 2026. It follows a rapid run of growth: shielded TVL stood at $90M as recently as late September, itself up from $40M recorded back in June, when the protocol's first vault launched.
The pace of that growth offers useful context. According to Zama, reaching $100M in Total Value Shielded took the protocol just three days during its January public auction, a feat it describes as taking other Ethereum-based privacy protocols years to match. The current $100M shielded TVL figure represents sustained, ongoing user deposits rather than a single auction event.
Zama's protocol is built on fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), a cryptographic approach that allows computations to be performed directly on encrypted data without ever decrypting it. Rather than replacing the base layer, Zama adds a modular confidentiality layer that allows smart contracts to compute directly on encrypted data, keeping transactions, balances, and application logic private end-to-end while remaining verifiable and composable.
A sharp expansion in vault infrastructure has helped drive adoption. On September 15, the network went from a single vault to sixteen, curated by five firms: Steakhouse Financial, Armitage by Wintermute, Flowdesk, RockawayX, and Bitwise. The vaults cover assets including cUSDC, cUSDT, cWBTC, cAUSD, and cTGBP.
DeFiLlama Research has also published its first dedicated report on confidential DeFi as a category, placing the broader segment at $197.6M in total TVL with 170% growth over 18 months. That kind of institutional recognition tends to bring further capital attention.
As Zama's CEO Rand Hindi has put it: "If you want to bring trillions onchain, you need confidentiality." The $100M shielded TVL figure suggests a growing number of investors are beginning to agree.
