A dormant Bitcoin address containing 4,500 BTC—valued at approximately $378 million—has been moved for the first time since April 2022. The transfer, which occurred for a fee of just 1,303 satoshis (about $1.10), involved consolidating the main balance and several small dust deposits into a fresh address.
Major transfer confirmed, dust included
The transaction was finalized at 02:30 UTC on September 25, after being included in Bitcoin block 968,483. Mining pool ViaBTC processed the block, confirming the movement of funds. Eight inputs made up the transfer: one containing nearly the entire 4,500 BTC and seven smaller dust inputs ranging from 294 to 547 satoshis each. These dust deposits had accumulated on the address between December 2024 and September 2026.
In total, one output was created, sending the full balance—4,499.99987779 BTC—to a new address beginning with bc1qpls. The fee rate for the transaction was 2.23 satoshis per virtual byte, which is considered low by network standards.
Onchain data show that the newly created address has yet to spend any of the funds, and there are currently no signs of a deposit to an exchange.
Of the eight inputs, one held 4,499.99986261 BTC, while the other seven consisted of small dust deposits added over the previous two years.
Mini dictionary: Dust — In cryptocurrency, “dust” refers to tiny amounts of coins or tokens, often too small to be spent due to network fees. These small fractions are typically leftover outputs from previous transactions and can occasionally be used to trace wallet activity.
Missed opportunities and historical context
The 4,500 BTC originally appeared on August 5, 2019, in block 588,718, when the stash was valued near $53.2 million, based on a Bitcoin price of $11,829 at the time. These coins remained untouched until April 21, 2022, when they were moved to the address used in this week’s significant transaction.
During the notable rally in October 2025, Bitcoin’s price neared $124,658, raising the value of this wallet to approximately $561 million. Despite this substantial appreciation, the owner chose not to liquidate any part of the holding at the price peak.

In a related movement, another dormant wallet from July 2012 transferred 600 BTC on September 22, increasing the two-week total of reactivated decade-old coins to 1,971 BTC.
While BTC continues to flow into long-term holder wallets, Binance’s Bitcoin reserves have decreased from approximately 705,000 BTC to 689,000 BTC in recent weeks.
Ongoing accumulation trends
Recent data indicate that long-term accumulation of BTC persists, with more coins being transferred into so-called accumulation wallets. At the same time, reserves held by Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, have dropped by about 16,000 BTC over the course of this month.
These trends highlight growing interest among long-term holders as older coins continue to move after years of inactivity, and centralized exchange balances gradually decline.
