@b14g_network, a Bitcoin staking protocol, has paused its staking contracts after an unauthorized withdrawal of about 97 million $CORE tokens.
The withdrawn tokens were worth about $1.36 million at midday prices. The protocol identified the problem and froze the affected contracts to stop further activity.
What b14g Has Disclosed
The 97 million CORE tokens had been staked through the protocol and were moved to addresses controlled by the attacker. b14g's tracing indicates about 68 million CORE remain on the Core chain, while exchange partners have frozen roughly 9 million CORE linked to the attacker.
The frozen amount equals about 9% of the reported drain. That figure does not show how much was recovered or what the final net loss will be.
BTC staked through the protocol remains time-locked on the Bitcoin network and was not affected. The team is working with the Core team, security partners and exchanges to trace the funds and coordinate freezing and recovery. It also plans to publish an incident analysis covering the technical cause, the impact and arrangements for affected users.
Core DAO Says the Network Was Not Affected
Core DAO, which supports the Core blockchain, said it was aware of the exploit and working with the b14g team. It described b14g as a restaking and yield protocol on Core and Babylon. Core DAO said the network's consensus, validators and staking contracts operated normally throughout the incident, and that CORE staked directly on the network was not involved.
Several questions remain open. b14g has not yet disclosed the technical cause of the withdrawals or the full extent of user losses. It also has not said how much of the remaining tokens has left the network or whether any has been converted into other assets.
For users, the immediate point is that the contracts are paused while the investigation continues. Further details are expected in the incident report b14g has promised.
