Investor enthusiasm within the cryptocurrency market has significantly increased following Bitcoin‘s meteoric rise. According to Alternative’s data from August 20, the Crypto Fear and Greed Index soared by 16 points, reaching 62, signaling a shift into the “greed” territory.
What Caused Bitcoin’s Price to Climb?
The dramatic uptick in the index has been driven by Bitcoin’s robust price performance. After the U.S. Treasury announced an expansion of its bond buyback program, Bitcoin surged past $69,000 on August 19, reaching nearly $69,700 at the time of writing.
Can Capital Inflows Sustain This Momentum?
Yes, positive sentiment has also translated into capital inflows into U.S.-traded spot Bitcoin ETFs. SoSoValue reported a total inflow of $517.2 million on August 19, marking the third consecutive day of positive net inflow, achieving the highest daily amount in nearly three months.
Leading the charge was BlackRock’s IBIT fund with an influx of approximately $284.7 million. Followed by Ark Invest’s ARKB fund with $77.7 million, and Fidelity’s FBTC fund accumulating a net inflow of $62.4 million.
Similarly, Bitwise’s BITB fund saw $35.6 million, Grayscale’s GBTC fund attracted $21.2 million, and Morgan Stanley’s MSBT fund received $10 million.
Ethereum mirrored these trends as well, with U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs reporting a net inflow of $189.1 million on the same day. BlackRock’s ETHA fund topped the list with about $122.1 million.
Is the CLARITY Act facing delays?
Concerns arise as U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego warned against fast-tracking the CLARITY Act, aimed at regulating digital assets. He cautioned that premature voting could delay the legislation’s progress.
Senator Gallego expressed worry over procedural voting before securing the bipartisan support needed to surpass the 60-vote threshold in the Senate.
The bill must navigate existing obstacles, including addressing provisions falling under the Agriculture Committee’s jurisdiction, preparing a comprehensive legislative package, and deciding how it will be sent to the House. Gallego urged the crypto sector to pressure for continued negotiations rather than a hurried vote.
On the same day, President Donald Trump engaged with crypto industry leaders at the White House, advocating for Congress to adopt a ‘fair version’ of the CLARITY Act. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced that the vote would be postponed to September and highlighted it as a priority upon Congress’s return from recess.
