The world's wealthiest individual, Elon Musk, secured a compensation of $158.35 billion at Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) for 2025 .

The automotive and clean energy company's Form 10-K/A amended filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 1, 2026, revealed that Tesla valued CEO Elon Musk's annual total compensation in 2025 at $158.35 billion.

Note that Tesla's filing mentions the figure is largely an accounting valuation of stock awards. It means Musk didn't actually receive $158 billion in cash or realized compensation.

However, if Musk were to cash out his 2025 Tesla compensation and spend it on buying Bitcoin (BTC) the same day Tesla revealed his pay, he would own nearly 10% of the leading cryptocurrency's maximum supply.

Musk and Tesla hold Bitcoin

Musk admitted to holding Bitcoin as early as 2021 when he revealed at a panel discussion that he holds the top cryptocurrency, along with Ethereum (ETH) and Dogecoin (DOGE).

In a podcast last year, he said he expects money as a concept to disappear in the future once advanced automation meets human needs at scale and an energy-based currency like Bitcoin could take over.

Even Tesla revealed its purchase of 43,200 Bitcoin in February 2021. The company also experimented with Bitcoin payments for vehicle purchases but abandoned the policy within weeks, citing the negative environmental effect of Bitcoin mining.

During the first quarter of 2021, Tesla sold 10% of its Bitcoin holdings. Next, it sold around 75% of its remaining holdings during the second quarter of 2022. With a small purchase in January 2025, it increased its holdings to 11,509 Bitcoin and didn't sell any coins later.

Musk can buy over 2 million Bitcoin with 2025 Tesla compensation

At Bitcoin's price of approximately $76,300 on May 1 — the day Tesla disclosed the 2025 compensation, Musk's $158.35 billion could have bought around 2.075 million BTC.

Since Bitcoin has a maximum supply of 21 million coins, it means Musk's hypothetical purchase of around 2.075 million coins accounts for nearly 10% of Bitcoin's maximum supply.
