On Aug. 3, a lucky solo Bitcoin (BTC) miner solved block 960,804 to pocket a reward of approximately $200,000.
Bitcoin mining is the process of validating transactions on the blockchain network so that new blocks are added to the chain. The miner who solves the cryptographic puzzle is rewarded with Bitcoin. Currently, the current Bitcoin mining reward is 3.125 BTC per block plus transaction fees.
The block 960,804 contained 4,243 transactions and paid 3.1568 Bitcoin to the miner, 3.125 BTC in reward and 0.032 BTC in fees.
It was the 317th solo block found through CKPool, and the winning address is bc1qdyqjq9qccp34pyv3kxmsrkn7p0amnsqqy8kdeq, the pseudonymous developer known as Dr–ck said.
Congratulations to miner bc1qdyqjq9qccp34pyv3kxmsrkn7p0amnsqqy8kdeq with a wildly variable - presumably rental - hashrate peaking at 100PH for solving the 317th solo block at https://t.co/UWgBvLkDqc! Despite the chaos from the hardware wallet exploit, bitcoin just keeps on doing…
The process of Bitcoin mining pits rigs against each other to win rewards, and it’s very difficult for a solo miner to solve a cryptographic puzzle and win a reward. So, the latest instance is a lucky case.
As per mempool.space, the network hashrate stood at 924 EH/s, and the peak was roughly 0.011% of the network, or one block around every 64 days. A solo miner with a single 100 TH/s machine runs 1/1,000 of it, with odds near 1 in 62,750 on any given day.
In short, it translates into an average waiting period of 172 years.
