Robinhood Markets (Nasdaq: HOOD) could very well be known as Cash Cat until the e-brokerage firm decided to call itself Robinhood.
This is a fact that the firm's founder and CEO Vlad Tenev himself confirmed in an X post in April 2021.
Recently, a meme coin called CASHCAT, recalling the lore around Robinhood's nomenclature, got launched on July 1.
A meme coin is a cryptocurrency inspired by internet memes, viral trends, or pop culture. Unlike Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH), meme coins usually have no real-world utility. Their value relies entirely on online hype, social media buzz, and community excitement.
Note that CASHCAT has no official link to Robinhood.
After more than a month of its launch, the cat-themed meme coin got listed by Robinhood on Aug. 6.
CASHCAT rallied from $0.08994 to $0.1598 in the 24 hours leading to its listing on Robinhood, reflecting a surge of 77.7%. However, it hit the all-time high (ATH) of $0.2288 on July 11.
However, the meme coin gave up its gains soon after, and it was trading at $0.1012 at the time of writing.
CASHCAT has a market capitalization of $99.76 million, and it has a 24-hour trading volume of $87.61 million. The maximum supply of the meme coin is 1 billion.
