@BanxaOfficial has switched on VietQR support for @MetaMask, giving Vietnamese users a way to top up their wallets using the same bank QR scan they use for everyday purchases. The integration gives Vietnamese users a direct way to buy cryptocurrency using instant bank transfers via standard QR scans. MetaMask amplified the launch, describing it as a direct bank-to-wallet on-ramp.
Lower fees change the equation
The pricing shift is what makes the move notable. Card-based crypto purchases carry fees as high as 7%, and on a USD $50 purchase that is roughly 92,110 VND gone before a user owns anything.Banxa is offering a zero-fee window on all VietQR transactions through July 31, 2026, before transitioning to a standard 3% flat rate. Beyond the cost, the change also addresses a safety concern: traditional international credit card purchases could carry fees as high as 7%, leading many users to turn to informal peer-to-peer networks instead. Those informal P2P channels came with no escrow, no licensing, and no recourse if a trade went wrong.
Vietnam: a top-four crypto market built on QR payments
Vietnam ranks fourth in the world for crypto adoption, out of 151 countries tracked by Chainalysis in 2025.Industry reports estimate some 17 to 20 million Vietnamese, or roughly 17 to 20% of the population, now own crypto. The country's digital payment infrastructure makes it a natural fit for this kind of integration. Around 15 million VietQR transfers move through the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam's NAPAS instant payment network every day, and merchant acceptance has reached 85% nationally.QR-based payments also grew 106.7% in volume and nearly 85% in value across Vietnam in 2024, driven partly by a government push toward cashless transactions.
Vietnam's onchain volume grew 55% between July 2024 and June 2025, according to Chainalysis's APAC adoption report. The Banxa integration arrives at a moment when Vietnam's regulatory environment is also shifting. The country's Law on Digital Technology Industry took effect on January 1, 2026, formally recognising Bitcoin and other crypto assets as property under Vietnamese civil law.
