Michael Saylor said his “never sell” advice applies to personal savings, while Strategy Inc. may trade Bitcoin(BTC) as part of corporate capital management.
Key Points:
- Saylor separates personal saving advice from Strategy’s corporate treasury decisions
- Strategy says it may buy or sell Bitcoin to increase Bitcoin per share
- Traders warn a sale could conflict with the company’s Bitcoin-first identity
Saylor Bitcoin Policy
Saylor addressed renewed debate over whether Strategy could sell Bitcoin while continuing to promote long-term conviction in the asset. “When I say ‘Never Sell Your Bitcoin,’ I speak as one saver to another,” he wrote on X.
Saylor said he has never sold any personal Bitcoin, “not one satoshi,” and framed the slogan as advice between savers, while emphasizing that Strategy’s public-company treasury policies remain separate from his wallet.
The company has disclosed since 2020 that it may buy or sell Bitcoin as part of capital management, although Saylor added, “Our shared conviction in Bitcoin remains unchanged.” Strategy CEO Phong Le said the goal is to increase Bitcoin per share over time, not merely preserve a fixed number of coins.

Strategy Bitcoin Debate
Reactions across the crypto community were mixed, with trader Crypto Patel saying that holding through volatility is harder than discussing it.
Analyst Elja said Saylor’s conviction would face scrutiny before any eventual reward, reflecting the pressure surrounding a possible corporate sale. Quinten said investors understand the difference between Saylor’s holdings and Strategy’s treasury, but warned that a sale could damage a brand built around accumulation: “But your whole personal brand is built around buying Bitcoin.”
Most Bitcoin investors already recognize the distinction, while trader Evanss66 argued that spot holdings, perpetual futures and options could improve returns during market cycles and should not be viewed negatively. That view treats active management as a tool, not a retreat.
That tension has existed since the company began its treasury strategy. Since Strategy adopted Bitcoin in August 2020, its identity has combined an accumulation message with the flexibility of a listed company, while Le says it has outperformed Bitcoin across every four-year holding period since then.
