Mining ban reduces strain on power grid in Russia

A ban on crypto mining in Russia’s Irkutsk region has reduced pressure on the local power grid. Governor Igor Kobzev confirmed the improvement. The restrictions have been in place since April 2025. They aim to address energy shortages and stabilize infrastructure.

Authorities report reduced pressure on power grids

Previously, around 11,000 connection requests were overdue. That figure has now fallen to just 216. This indicates that significant capacity has been freed.

The restrictions apply to 29 municipalities, including Irkutsk, Angarsk, and Shelekhov.

The mining ban came into effect on April 7, 2025.
