The Solana Foundation has unveiled Solana DvP, an open-source escrow program aimed at streamlining institutional trade settlements for banks and major financial institutions on its blockchain network.

Institutional focus and settlement standardization

Solana DvP introduces a standardized API for delivery-versus-payment (DvP) settlement, a widely adopted mechanism in traditional finance that ensures both asset and payment are exchanged simultaneously. By moving this process to the Solana blockchain, the foundation aims to replicate the security and reliability of established financial markets in a digital setting.

The program has been released under the MIT license, permitting broad use and modification by the industry. Solana Foundation emphasized that J.P. Morgan, one of the world’s largest banks, contributed valuable insights on institutional settlement procedures that influenced the platform’s design.

Solana DvP automates and condenses the traditional multi-day process of settlement and clearing—usually handled by clearinghouses and custodians—into a single atomic transaction. In this system, both sides of a trade settle together, or not at all, minimizing counterparty risk and increasing efficiency.

Industry collaboration and expert commentary

Catherine Gu, head of product for digital assets at the Solana Foundation, highlighted the potential impact of atomic settlement, stating that the system eliminates the counterparty risk that exists in legacy financial structures and provides “finality in seconds instead of days.”

Rhodel D’souza, J.P. Morgan’s head of markets digital assets, noted that a shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment is precisely the foundational infrastructure that institutional market participants have been seeking.

The introduction of this open-source program is seen as an advancement for institutions gravitating towards tokenized real-world assets and blockchain-based settlement solutions.

Mini dictionary: Delivery-versus-payment (DvP) is a settlement method in financial markets where the transfer of securities and the corresponding payment occur simultaneously, significantly reducing risk for both parties involved.

Broader momentum in tokenized assets

Solana’s role within the institutional digital asset space has expanded in recent months. BlackRock, currently the world’s largest asset manager, launched a tokenized money market fund for stablecoin reserves in August. This fund records ownership on both Solana and Ethereum blockchains and is structured to qualify as a reserve asset under the GENIUS Act.

Kraken has also leveraged the Solana network to offer tokenized U.S. equities for international customers through its xStocks product. These initiatives help cement Solana’s position as a prominent platform for tokenized equities.

Industry observers noted that the debut of Solana DvP further strengthens the infrastructure available for regulated institutions seeking secure and efficient on-chain settlement solutions.

Solana DvP’s introduction is expected to increase confidence among regulated players and foster the adoption of blockchain for complex financial operations.
