$61.8 Million BTC Move Flags Draper Wallet Activity

A wallet possibly linked to billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper has transferred 1,000 $BTC, worth approximately $61.8 million, to Coinbase Prime, according to on-chain analytics firm lookonchain. The transaction has drawn immediate attention from market watchers, with some speculating it could point to institutional positioning or portfolio rebalancing by one of Bitcoin's most prominent long-term holders.

Neither Draper nor his firm has publicly commented on the transfer. The wallet attribution remains unconfirmed, and a single on-chain movement does not necessarily indicate a sale. Large holders routinely move funds between wallets and custodial platforms for operational or security reasons, and interpreting any isolated transaction requires caution.

A Bitcoin Position Built on a Government Auction

The renewed attention on Draper's holdings traces back more than a decade. In 2014, Draper bought 29,656 bitcoins confiscated by U.S. Marshals from the shuttered Silk Road black market for $18.7 million, or just $632 per coin, according to Forbes. The Marshals planned to sell them in nine blocks to different bidders, but one bidder wound up beating out the competition: venture capitalist Tim Draper. At the time, Draper emphasized that he is an investor, not a trader, and said he was making a big long-term bet on the cryptocurrency.

That bet has aged significantly. Based on current prices, those original holdings would be worth roughly $1.8 billion today. Draper has repeatedly stated he has no intention of selling. His firm, Draper Associates, has also built a broader crypto portfolio over the years. Draper has since invested in over 50 crypto companies, leading investments in Coinbase, Ledger, Tezos, and Bancor, among others.

The July 2026 transfer is not the first time a wallet linked to Draper has shown movement toward Coinbase. In March 2025, blockchain analytics platform Onchain Lens identified a transfer in which a wallet linked to Draper moved 150.84 $BTC, valued at approximately $11.62 million, to a deposit address for a major centralized exchange, with evidence strongly suggesting the receiving platform was Coinbase.

Draper remains publicly bullish on Bitcoin's long-term trajectory. In a recent interview, Draper reiterated his $250,000 Bitcoin price target, rooted in the view that Bitcoin is in the middle of replacing the financial system itself.
