Major Purchases Across Tech and Blue-Chip Names

US President Donald Trump's latest financial disclosures have revealed a sweeping series of stock purchases during the first quarter of 2026. In Q1, the president bought as much as $5 million each in companies including Nvidia Corp., Oracle Corp., Microsoft Corp., Boeing Co., and Costco Wholesale Corp., according to documents posted on Thursday.

A newly released Office of Government Ethics (OGE) filing shows Trump's portfolio executed 3,642 securities transactions in Q1, roughly 58 trades for every US trading day in the quarter. The filing, posted May 14, spans 113 pages and covers more than 3,600 securities transactions between January and late March 2026.

The reports cover the first three months of 2026 and record transaction values in broad ranges rather than exact amounts, showing a cumulative value of between $220 million and around $750 million. The disclosure forms are required under federal ethics rules and provide only a partial snapshot of an official's financial activity, listing transactions above $1,000 in broad value bands without disclosing exact prices, profits, or whether assets were purchased directly or through managed accounts.

Opaque Structure and Conflicts Questions

The filings represent a marked shift from an investment strategy that had focused almost exclusively on corporate and municipal bonds. This appears to be the first financial transaction disclosure Trump has filed during his second term that shows the president picking individual corporate stocks.

While the president's assets are held in a trust controlled by his children, several transactions in the new filings indicate that a broker acted as an agent. The filings do not clarify which specific accounts held the transactions or who precisely placed the trades.

Several disclosed trades reportedly occurred before later administration actions, trade negotiations, or corporate developments tied to AI, defense, crypto, and brokerage markets. For example, Nvidia purchases were made before CEO Jensen Huang joined Trump's China trip, where AI chip exports and semiconductor policy were expected to be discussed.

The president's annual financial disclosure, a broader filing that includes business assets and income such as golf resorts and crypto ventures, is expected in the coming months.
